Brooklyn State of Mind: Welcome to Brooklyn Pierre (2043.2)

It hasn't been long on the job for new GM Ben Heuring, and he already has started to put his stamp on the franchise. The team is proud to announce the signing of top free agent pitcher Pierre Legrand to a 6 year contract. Legrand was considered one of the best options on the market, so Robins fans can look forward to having him headline the rotation. Legrand said "It is a great pleasure to join the Robins. Brooklyn is a team on the up and up for a few years, and Ben Heuring really sold the benefits of getting to play here, and it made sense to get to be the guy." Heuring added "Pierre is a very good investment, as he is a pitcher that I had my eyes on for a while. He has plenty of playoff experience in his time with the Surfers and Pioneers. We have a younger team, and I felt like getting a veteran starter to join Brooklyn and keep him away from the rest of the Johnson. I think he is a great signing, and fills a need."

Legrand is a signing that fulfills one of the goals of Brooklyn DNA. This goal is what Heuring calls Understand Your Surroundings. What this means is knowing what your team has in comparison to your competitors. Heuring noticed that the Robins were able to win the Atlantic, but it was a war all year long, and he needed to upgrade the pitching to give him a better shot against the Atlantic as well as the Jackrabbits. Brooklyn is a very good team, and making the Cartwright was no fluke job. But Heuring felt getting more pitching help at the top might be worth it, and thus he went after a couple of pitchers. The GM won't show any information, but he felt strongly that thinking about what the rest of the Johnson is going to be a tough ask means upgrading your needs and making sure that Brooklyn can keep the window open.

I offered him more AAV but was not willing to commit to years 5-6 so that was the tipping point for you. Nice signing.

Thanks Randy. I like what you have been doing with the Bears.

He makes me sad because I have to remember another one of my lousy trades:

12/01/2034 Was traded by the Las Vegas Hustlers to the Long Beach Surfers, along with SP Manny Gabriel, in exchange for SP Jimmy Greenwood.
