If Travis McDermott isn't elected to the Hall of Fame.... we riot!
Managers don't get a lot of respect in the BBA. In fact I can't even link Travis McDermott's name in this article cause it got wiped from existence when he filed retirement paper work. At that is a damn shame. McDermott is the all time leader in manager wins with 2,365. More then 400 wins more then the second place manager. He won two Landis titles and made the playoffs 19 times. Six times more then the second place manager and more then double the third place skipper.
We are talking about a first ballot hall of famer here folks. This isn't some hack of a fielder who batted .222 and happened to have 500 homers cause he played in a bandbox. This is one of the greatest minds and talents that the BBA has ever seen. It shouldn't be up for debate.
But do we even have a manager wing of the Hall of Fame? Is Travis McDermott' going to be forgotten about in five years because the Hall of Fame is prejudice against managers? Fans in Brooklyn are irate about the process and have been petitioning the commissioners office to do something about it.
As far as replacing McDermott, who has been serving as the Robins bench coach in later years. The team has yet to decide. There is talk of a mass coaching change that would see ex Robins Bob Brandon, Mario Méndez, and/or Enrique Salazar join Brooklyn in some capacity. Yet a final decision has yet to be made. One thing is for sure, whoever the succesor is, has some gigantic shoes to fill.
