Brooklyn Robin Draft Rodriguez Review

Mrs. Rodriguez will be so proud.

The Brooklyn Robins spent the last couple of seasons turning over the minor league system. They added an over abundance of halfway decent or better players. So much so that playing time in the minors is well planned out and quite frankly hard to come by. Now, not all of these players are future all stars. There is always room for improvement. With the 2039 draft, Brooklyn was hoping it would be as deep as 2038 and further put the pedal to the medal in adding to their glorious stockpile. But that wasn't really the case. After about 5-6 rounds the well dried up. The players up for the taking had more warts then a retired porn star and weren't any better then what we had So this happened.....

Drafted RP José Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 7, Pick 8, 218th overall pick).
Drafted 2B José Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 8, Pick 8, 248th overall pick).
Drafted RP José Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 9, Pick 8, 278th overall pick).
Drafted 1B José Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 10, Pick 8, 308th overall pick).
Drafted C José Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 11, Pick 8, 338th overall pick).
Drafted RP José Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 12, Pick 8, 368th overall pick).
Drafted RP Juan Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 13, Pick 8, 398th overall pick).
Drafted RP Juan Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 14, Pick 8, 428th overall pick).
Drafted RF Juan Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 15, Pick 8, 458th overall pick).
Drafted RP Jorge Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 16, Pick 8, 488th overall pick).
Drafted RP Jorge Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 17, Pick 8, 518th overall pick).
Drafted RP Jesús Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 18, Pick 8, 548th overall pick).
Drafted RP Jesús Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 19, Pick 8, 578th overall pick).
Drafted CF Javier Rodríguez in the 2039 first-year player draft (Round 20, Pick 8, 608th overall pick).

14 J. Rodriguez's. 6 Jose's, 3 Juans, 2 Jorge's, 2 Jesus', and one lonely Javier. This is what happens when round one of the draft takes 8 days and then 14 rounds are zipped by in a single 8 hour period. The Brookyln GM is known to moonlight as a short order cook and was preparing breakfast for Tennessee Titans Linebacker Cameron Wake during the time many of the J-Rods were selected. Sure he could of made a better draft list. But what's the point of making a list 3-400 deep when you are just going to get a crappy Tom, Dick, or Jose anyway. At least this list was fun. Imagine the look on the next Brooklyn GM's face when he looks at the draft history.

A couple of the J-Rods managed to make the cut and not get released. Sure, this was a waste of resources. But this draft wasn't deep at all. And this is coming from the same person that signed 100 players post draft a few years ago because it was deep. There may be a part 2 to this newsie that talks about the serious players we drafted. But I've been in a writers slump so they may be retired before I get the motivation.
