2038.23 What's on Draft?

With 1,000 minor league coaches on tap... Brooklyn goes with "the usual".

Recently the Brooklyn Robins sent a couple of filler minor league coaches packing. The organization has been on a multi year phasing in process of recognizing Brooklyn stars of the past. Currently the team has former players Bob Brandon, Orlando Medrano, Mario Méndez, Enrique Salazar, and Ricardo Guzmán are already on board and working their way up the minor league ranks. There are many more on the way in the near future as the teams strives for 100% former player coaches.

Joining the team this winter will be the Brooklyn Slugger(S-lager) himself Sam Adams. Like the beer he is named after Adams was an acquired taste. When you think about the prototypical modern day Robins player, Adams is probably the opposite of that. When GM Alan Ehlers took over the last place Robins on June 1st of 2026, Adams was one of the first players viewed as a potential trade chip. But with no viable backup option in house, the team decided to keep the all or nothing catcher and make a decision in the off season.

Then the magic happened. Brooklyn reorganized and went on a once in a generation type run, snuck into the playoffs and successfully stole the Landis with what many consider to be "the worst team ever to win a Landis. To say that Adams was an intrical part of that would be a vast understatement. He won multiple Zimmer awards, finished 3rd in the 2027 Sawyer Silk voting while accumulating 15.5 WAR over the next 3 seasons in Brooklyn. Yeah.. he struck out a lot. But he was one hell of a ballplayer.

After the 2029 season the Robins run was obviously unsalvageable and Adams was seeking a 100 Mil+ extension. The player and team parted ways and Adams ended up settling for 2 years and 15 million with the expansion Talons. He would have one good season for Phoenix and drifted off into oblivion. Earning several decent paychecks from teams hoping he would revert to the player of old.

It is not known yet where Brooklyn will place Adams in the coaching ranks. Rumors are circulating that he will occupy the Rookie League Lexington Sycamores hitting coach position so he can work with young sluggers Felipe Vega, José Ramos, Hadji Ufanisi, Ernesto Mendoza, and Eduardo Maes. The largest power cluster in a team that doesn't really prioritize power. But maybe the influence of Sam Adams will change that mentality.

Fantastic. And who among us doesn't strive to be rich, balanced and complex?

I've got a story that's semi- soon to be published that's written around the worst team to ever win a Landis.
