For the first 15 seasons of the Brooklyn Robins franchise, back when they played in Baltimore as the Monarchs, there was only one answer to the question: Who is the team's best player?
Daniel Labrie.
Sure, there were other great players on the squad that made the playoffs in 14 of Labrie's 18-year career, but he's the guy opposing fans thought about when the Monarch wrecking crew rolled into town. A career .337 batting average, 3,143 hits and 375 career homeruns kept him at the top of the lineup for nearly two decades. Labrie was a 13-time all star and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2016.
And it's for these reasons that Daniel Labrie is the first Baltimore/Brooklyn player to have his number retired and be selected to the Ring of Honour. His No. 60 will now hang in the Robins Hall of Legends.
"This is the greatest honor I've ever received," said Labrie during the ground-breaking ceremony for the team's new Hall of Legends. "I was just a kid from Hollister, California, who loved to play baseball. The way I was embraced by fans in Baltimore is one of my treasured memories."
Labrie's name is all over the Monty Brewster League's career lists. He is currently fifth in career batting average, first in OBP at .440, 10th in OPS at .944, 17th in games played, 9th in runs, 11th in hits, 51st in HRs, and 38th in RBI.
To further honor Labrie, the Brooklyn Robins have announced that, beginning this year, the Daniel Labrie Hitter of the Year Award will be given to the Robins' batter who is voted to have had the best season.
The inaugural winner is Rob Childers, who hit 54 homeruns this season and posted a team-leading 4.0 WAR.
"This is quite an honor," said Childers at the ceremony. "I grew up not too far from Baltimore and I was always a huge fan. My favorite player growing up was Daniel, so this means even more to me."

Hush. We don't talk about that around here. All he was trying to do was recover more quickly so he could get back in the lineup. He's a fricken HERO.
