Two vets file for free agency S23E04

The Brooklyn Robins lost a pair of veteran players once the 2022 free agency filing rolled around earlier this week.

Gone are outfielder Daniel Labrie, Jr. (.322/.365/.478, 14 HR, 64 RBI) and starting pitcher Brad Welsh (5 - 5, 4.28 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 74 K).

Labrie, who will be 29 when next season starts, had a fantastic year for the Robins, leading the team with a .322 average (second in the JL) with 14 HR, 64 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He was acquired from Las Vegas Hustlers prior to the season for a pair of prospects.

"It was a real pleasure to bring Dan to the organization that his father, Hall of Famer Dan Labrie, played for for his entire career," said GM Blue Pasquale. "We tried to hammer out a new contract for Danny, but we just couldn't come to an agreement."

Also leaving the team after just one season is Welsh, whose contract was purchased from Huntsville during the off-season. Welsh spent the first half of the season recovering from a pre-existing injury and started 17 games for the Robins in the second half of the season. He put up 5-5 record and posted a 4.28 ERA.

"Brad was a great influence on some of our younger pitchers," said Pasquale. "He went out of his way to share his knowledge and experience with his new teammates and his presence will be missed."
