Player Awards
Another regular season and another JL Atlantic Crown. Despite having a large lead most of the year the division race was closer than many past years. The upstart Louisville Sluggers actually ended the year ahead in pythag. I did play subs for a lot of September but the balance of power in the JL Atlantic is definitely shifting.
Offensive Award-
3B - Dale Bunker
An elite bat and an elite defender Bunker has been the heart and soul of the team for the past few seasons. The former first rounder finished second in the JL Sawyer Silk award voting with a .329/.371./.544 slash line. The 30 year old posted the second highest WAR of his career at 7.2. Bunker appears to be solidly entrenched at 3B in Baltimore and will be looking to sign a new contract in 2014.
Pitching Award-
SP -David Lewis
Lewis had the best season of his career going 13-9 with a 4.33 ERA in 31 starts. Lewis was the innings eater in a pretty unremarkable M’s rotation in 2013. The pitching award is small consolation for Lewis as he recovers from an injury that will keep him out until likely September next season.
Rookie Award-
SP – Jorge Hernandez
Hernandez had a solid rookie campaign going 7-3 with a 3.74 ERA with time split between the rotation and bullpen. With the trade deadline acquisitions of Julio Feliz and Dutch Oven Huigens Hernandez spent time in AAA and didn’t appear in the post season but was otherwise a solid contributor and a big part of the future for the M’s.
