Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins Acquire Future Hall of Famer (2049.2)

Post by lordtoffee » Tue Nov 30, 2021 6:10 pm

It has been clear to anyone that the Robins are going to need to fill a bunch of holes, and thankfully they have a marquee attraction. In a deal with the San Fernando Bears, the Robins can proudly announce that they have acquired Aki Kondo. Merchandise sales of Kondo's jersey have instantly become one of the top sellers at official Robins stores across the team footprint. While nobody is going to claim that the Robins are going to be playoff contenders in the Johnson yet, the Robins are going to be willing to turbocharge the rebuild.

In a statement by the President of Baseball Operations, it was clear that Heuring was happy about his trade. "Aki is of course one of the most dominant pitchers in his time in the BBA. I want to thank Randy and his team in San Fernando for their assistance, as well as the ownership and staffers here in Brooklyn. It's a major honor to get to call Aki a Robin, and I look forward to working with him as we continue our rebuilding project here in the biggest media market in the country. No matter what happens this year, there is some excitement around this team, and with this rotation, we have a chance to seriously improve. That is all I want to see out of this team."

Future HOF? Possibly. He better find 15 more wins before he retires. He stands a chance.

I didn’t realize how long Kondo had been around. Don’t think he’s HOF though.

Right now, probably not. But I wouldn't put it completely out of the realm of possibility. This is his 35 year old season, so lets give him 2 more good years and 2 more so-so years onto his career. 500 strikeouts still in the tank is a real possibility and that puts him 10th all-time in Ks. If he can average 7-8 wins a season that gives him around 210-215 total and into the top 30 all-time there.

Of course the ERA is likely going to trickle over 4.00 before he retires and the other numbers probably won't add up to get him in. But I didn't realize it was Hall of Very Good though.

I will be pulling for him, but I needed the cap room. Has a definite case for HOF and even if he doesn't make it he should stick around for the max amount of time.
