Logo change for Charlotte Knights - Opinions?
It completely slipped my attention but with the Knights moving back Uptown in 2014 (they've been about 20 miles away in Fort Mill, SC for about 20 years) they unveiled a new logo. What do you guys think? I've always liked blue/green combos for some reason, but the black/gold looks sharp and it allows the brushed 'C' to be incorporated. (They are AAA for the White Sox if you're wondering)

Not liking the crown (unless it's a chastity belt - not sure considering the position on the H). The helmet cradled in the C is pretty good.

agree... the crown is gimmicky and doesn't reinforce anything with the team/sport. Which brings to mind another flaw... this could be baseball, hockey, fencing, backgammon, watersports, who the hell knows what the knights actually do. Part of the beauty of the Phoenix Suns logo imho. Why couldn't the 'C' be a baseball in some way or another.

The crown is a nod to Charlotte being the "Queen City" (was named after one of the English king's nieces) but you're right...looks kind of random if you're nor from Charlotte.

The C looks stupid. The knight (chess piece) looks a lot better, not that it advertised what sport it was for....
Someone said Dallas Stars outfit/colours suck big time this year. Haven't taken a look.

So the Charlotte Knights are actually going to play in Charlotte? Always thought that was odd having a stadium in SC. What are they going to do with the stadium in fort mill? I played there several times when I was playing for Winthrop. It was a nice stadium at the time (mid-90's).

Honestly? Who cares? I see this in the same light as the Birmingham (AL) Barons moving back downtown and leaving a 20+ year-old stadium empty in the suburbs. Both Fort Mill and Hoover (AL) lured teams away from downtown...this is just righting a wrong, IMHO. If you do that there's always a chance the reverse could happen.wualumni wrote:So the Charlotte Knights are actually going to play in Charlotte? Always thought that was odd having a stadium in SC. Another angle, although I haven't officially heard it stated, is that there has always been resentment from South Carolina folks (the Gamecocks wear red) over the Carolina Panthers being blue/black (closer to Duke and North Carolina). Maybe this is an attempt to avoid that controversy?
On a side note, watching a professional baseball stadium being built from scratch has been absolutely fascinating!! Yes, I was always the guy who felt the infield grass, wanted to know what species it was, watched them trim it before games, etc. Anyone can lay sod on a big rectangular field...a baseball diamond is a work of art.
