Absolutely the right call strictly because intent of the fielder is not relevant. I had the opposite case in American Legion ball when, playing 2B, I covered a steal with a man on 3rd. I tagged the stealer from 1st and he rolled over me while the guy from 3rd scored before being called out due to interference. Whether we would have caught both was irrelevant as long as I made an effort to get up and make the play.

Very strange way to end any game let alone the 3rd game of the world series, but totally the correct call.
