Brewers "Impossible Dream"

Post by recte44 » Wed Sep 12, 2012 9:57 pm

A month ago we traded Greinke, were left for dead.

Strange thing, we now are above .500 for the first time since we were 4-2 in April. And slowly but surely, we're back in this thing for real.

After our win (completing the sweep of Atlanta) tonight and St. Louis' loss at San Diego, the Brewers are now just 3 games back of the 2nd Wild Card spot.

Still a super long shot, but even I had no inclination that Brewers games in late September would mean anything this year.

Ditto... Good stuff even if I am on the wrong side of the mason-Dixon line. Hopefully they pull.it off.

4.5 back now with 9 games to go. It was a great run, but I think it's come to an end.

I know. Sad to see it flicker out, but still....this second half was a lot of fun.

Sorry, but you can always root for the Motor City Kitties to continue their improbable run...although it's pretty improbable in itself that it's so improbable at this point, given the probability of a World Series appearance that everyone gave them in spring training...

I think it was 1981 (maybe), the Braves were like 7 back and 10 to play. Or maybe it was that they won 7 out of last 10, but anyway they overtook the first place team in some kind of scenario like this.

And I recall Joe Morgan, then playing for the Giants (?) getting a game winning hit the last day of the season against the team the Braves bypassed.

I figure Morgan redeemed himself for years of getting hits to beat the Braves.

In 1982, not 1981, the Braves won 7 of last 9 games to overtake the Dodgers, who had a 3-game lead.
