Top 100

Post by 7teen » Thu Feb 03, 2022 11:14 am

So ESPN ranked the top 100 players in MLB history.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/331 ... l-nos-25-1

That link takes you to 25-1. Thoughts?

This list is a joke. Nolan Ryan and Satchel Paige are rated in the 40s but Tom Seaver is 20 spots above them? Aaron was not that good - definitely not top 5 good! So many other spots that are just stupid too.

I also dont think guys that are currently active should ever be considered in these lists. You dont really know how Trout is going to turn out so just leave him off.

Seeing Bryce Harper on the list at all really invalidated the whole list.

It's a joke lol. Severely biased towards pre integration and like no Negro Leagues consideration?

I'm not opposed to having active players on the list especially Trout who is basically an inner circle HOF guy already.

I think Trout being that high on the list at the moment is a bit of a stretch.

Trout that high is a bit of a stretch. But I could see him there in the end.

I have no problem with Seaver being considerably higher than Ryan. At their peaks that's a no-brainer for me. If some one wants to argue the opposite, there would be fair conversation. That's the beauty of these kinds of lists.

And, yes, Henry Aaron was that good. :)

Griffey was my favorite player growing up, like many others my age, but he is way too high on the list. Really surprised that Pedro's WAR is only 86.1. That seems way too low for the best pitcher of his generation. And I agree Aaron is too high, but this list has no reasoning. How is Bonds #6? Are they only including him as a player up until 1999?
