Re: Who do you follow?
Ohhhh, now I get it...I thought you'd always been a Twins fan but you had an incredible sense of sportsmanship and honor as a kid so you hated Hrbek for his World Series' shenanigans despite rooting for the Twinkies. I take back all the good I had attributed to your character.shoeless.db wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 3:28 pmBraves fan due to TBS growing up (Screw you, Kent Hrbek!).

Re: Who do you follow?
I was raised in Montana so I had no local allegiance; I just loved the game and players. My three favorites were Ken Griffey Jr., Omar Vizquel, and Pedro Martinez. After seeing Pedro pitch for the farm team in Great Falls, I decided I'd follow him to Montreal with my fandom. So long story short... yep!

Re: Who do you follow?
Grew up a yankees fan. Saw Jeter, Bernie and others play AA ball in my hometown.
But live in DC now. Been a Nats fan for about 10 years (about as long as ive been in this league!)
Love both teams. I was dreading a nats-yanks world series.

Re: Who do you follow?
Phillies fan here.
True story, back in my college days (early 80s) I was with buddies in the 700 level of Veteran's Stadium, way out in left field. The section was mostly empty. Mike Schmidt at the plate, and from our vantage point he was a mile away. He smashes one that comes straight toward us. I will always remember thinking that ball is going to drop, it won't come near us, but it kept rising and rising and rising...
...and it smacked right into my outstretched hands. I spilled my beer, the ball dropped down from my hands into the empty seat in front of me. A woman nearby reached out and I pushed her arm away and grabbed it. That ball was mine, and still is. I earned it.
So yes, I have one of the 548 balls that Mike Schmidt hit for home runs in his career. I never got it signed, so I can't really prove it, but at least my friends were there to witness it (and family saw it replayed on TV that night).

Re: Who do you follow?
I’m a Cubs fan, my parents were Cubs fans, my grandparents were Cubs fans ... greatest moment was interviewing Ernie Banks in college at Wrigley Field. After the interview, he took me out on the field ... to the pitcher’s mound, and into the outfield, where I touched the ivy.
Second greatest moment: 2016.

Re: Who do you follow?
I've heard my team referred to in recent years as the Red Menace. I kind of like that. May as well own our annoying, entitled fan base. St. Louis is a great baseball town with some great baseball fans, and also a lot of obnoxious ones.

Re: Who do you follow?
I'm a third-generation Reds fan. I was a teenager during the Big Red Machine era, and because we had a family friend who worked for the team, we occasionally were able to score some really good seats for the games; like, front row next to the dugout.
Being a teenager, sitting in the front row, watching the Big Red Machine... man, it ain't never gonna get no better than that...

Re: Who do you follow?
Growing up I was a Phillies Fan (1st little lg team I was on) still am. I grew up in Southern California so one of our annual trips for my birthday in May was to go to a Dodger game against the Phillies if possible. One of the few trips we took every year so I looked forward to it. I used to fall asleep to Dodger games on my headphones every night during baseball season listening to the old Vinster. I couldn't get Phillies radio so I had to settle for the Dodgers but that wasn't half bad at all back then in the 80's and 90's. I live in San DIego now for the past 15 years or so so I've become quite a Padre fan but one of the funnest memories I have was about 6-7 years ago going to Petco Park and seeing the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw in town for a game. I was sitting in Toyota Terrace (2nd deck) with my 8 year old son at the time and my son had just moved seats to the seat in front of me on the end. Well I don't remember the batter I think it was a catcher up to the plate but Kershaw was on the mound and the batter hit a screamer our way instincts took over and I found myself standing up and putting my barehand straight up and lo and behold the line drive found it's way right into the palm of my hand. I couldn't believe it and I looked down and saw my son's jaw dropped and I suddenly became the "pretty cool" dad for a moment. I saw Kershaw look back as the crowd erupted and gave a smile and got a few atta boys texted from the little league dads who were watching it on TV. Only ball I've caught in my life but a pretty cool one:)
