2016 MLB Predictions

Post by Lane » Thu Mar 31, 2016 4:09 pm

I like to do these every year just so I have something to brag/laugh about when my predictions turn out to be perfect/terrible. I doubt if anyone cares about my thoughts, and it seems like there's a fair amount of you who don't care about MLB at all. But for those of you that do, maybe you want to discuss the upcoming season a bit.

ALE
Toronto
New York
Baltimore
Boston
Tampa Bay

ALC
Detroit
Cleveland (WC)
Chicago
Kansas City
Minnesota

ALW
Texas
Houston (WC)
Seattle
Anaheim
Oakland

NLE
New York
Washington (WC)
Miami
Philadelphia
Atlanta

NLC
Chicago
Pittsburgh
St. Louis
Milwaukee
Cincinnati

NLW
Los Angeles
San Francisco (WC)
Arizona
Colorado
San Diego

World Series
Los Angeles over Texas

Other Thoughts
What a shame that the Angels continue to absolutely waste prime years of Mike f'n Trout.
Yes, it's an even year; No the Giants aren't winning another World Series title.
Arizona is overrated. So are the Giants.
The AL Central is a cluster. Not a clusterf**** but a cluster. Really not confident about those picks.
If only Toronto had a better pitching staff...

Yeah it's definitely not a popular pick but I'd bank on a big year from Verlander and I think the old guys have at least one more year of really good offense. And that JD Martinez guy is decent.

I'm a huge Cards fan, but even I'll admit the Cubs look scary on paper this year. I think their pitching performs worse than expected. I won't say underperform because I think they are overvalued. They'll still win the division. Pittsburgh will beat us when hell freezes over. That's been predicted every year for like 5-6 years now. It's not happening.

I'm hopeful for the Jays and think they can win the AL East but man that rotation is so meh.

Yeah, it's probably silly of me to predict Pittsburgh over St Louis given the Cardinals Devil Magic that never seems to go away.

Yuuuuup. They're gonna hit so many dingers though that the rotation might not even matter.

I think the Jays pitching is much better then they get credit for. Problem is how they will hold up in the second half? Both Stroman and Sanchez have the potential to be high end starters, but neither has started for an entire season at the ML level. Happ and Dickey are 4+ERA type guys who usually end up at .500 for the season but have the opportunity to better that this year with the offense the Jays have. Estrada will be interesting. Starting the year on the DL is a precaution, but can he match last year?

Bullpen is strong at the back end but kinda a mish mash in the middle.

The Brewers are going to suck this year but my interest is at an all-time high. New GM David Stearns is in the midst of what might be the textbook definition of how to do a massive rebuild in a short period of time. I think we'll be contenders in two years. Our farm system is incredible right now.

I have to admit I haven't payed much attention to their management changes but I did like their savvy acquisition of Chris Carter and I've heard great things about Orlando Arcia. Might be a couple of down years but it looks like they've got lots of potential.

Ditto this statement for the Phillies.

I'm spoiled being a Dodgers fan with them being good now AND having a top farm system.

This is kind of irrelevant, but kind of interesting...

Late last year (September), I watched an Diamondbacks v Rockies game 20 seats up from third base for $4 a tix...

I'm seeing the jays on Saturday for $100 a tix, and I'm mid way to the outfield on the third base line, 20 rows back

I also looked into spring trading tix, and couldn't believe how much they cost...

I'm giving serious thought to only going to future mlb games once that team is eliminated...so I'll see you in August, Chris! Go reds!

5/5 in the NL (flipped NYM/WAS)
3/5 in the AL...whiffed on the ALE but otherwise OK. Not a bad year I guess!

I'm just glad the Reds took 4 out of 7 from the cardinals down the stretch...I hope that didn't leave a mark...

I wish the Reds wouldn't have won any other games though...luckily we still got the 2nd pick in the draft....tried to play themselves down to the 5th or 6th pick on the final day of the season...sigh...
