What's your single most MLB moment?

Post by avery » Wed Dec 31, 2014 3:52 pm

You can interpret that any way you want. Can you pick **one** play or memory or decision or event or encounter or controversy or photo that answers the question for you.? If so what and why?

For me right now the replays of Carlton Fisk waving his world series homerun stick out. I didn't even see it, but its dramatic.

As a kid walking into the County Stadium concourse and having the field exposed to view with batting practice going. The grass has never looked greener.

This, especially Cooper's "down, down!" gesture at 0:57

And, this one....clinched the first Brewers postseason appearance since 1982.

For me it was Joe Carter hitting the game winning HR in the WS off Mitch Williams. Doesn't get much better then a WS winning walk off HR.

That was good too. I also vividly remember Ricky Henderson breaking the SB record.

Going to County Stadium for a double header between the then AL Brewers and my favorite team, the White Sox. Got to see the major league debuts of Alex Fernandez (Starting Pitcher for the Pale Hoes) and one Frank Thomas.

Three moments for me......

My BEST one.....

9/23/88 Oakland A's @ Milwaukee Brewers

I went to all three games in this series at old County Stadium. Growing up a huge Brewers AND A's fan (still am) I was there to witness Jose Canseco swipe his 40th base to become the first 40-40 man. Seeing what happened now, I'm a little embarrassed to say that he was my favorite player as a kid.

The other two involved Paul Molitor. I was there when his 39 game hit streak ended. He was in the on deck circle and poor Rick Manning couldn't extend the game. I think there were reports of gunshots fired at Manning's van as he left the lot.

The last one was in 1992. Molitor hit a walk off single to keep the Crew in the hunt for the postseason. That, still to this day, is the loudest crowd I had ever heard.

Decade+ of futility. Braves, predictably, fail multiple times to put the game away (hence, it being tied in the 9th and my dad going to bed in disgust). Sid Bream, likely one of the top 10 slowest players in MLB history...and wearing a knee brace, vs. Barry Bonds' noodle arm. Skip Caray going off just like his dad...

I was always fond of walking into Riverfront Stadium, smelling the hot dogs from outside the ballpark waiting to get in and that automated voice reminding everyone that "cans, bottles, and alcoholic beverages were not permitted into Riverfront Stadium." I have all sorts of great moments at that place in meaningless games.

My most fond recent memory is Jay Bruce's walkoff homerun against Houston in 2010 to get the Reds to the post-season for the first time since 1995. Went to two playoff games with my oldest son at GABP (both Reds losses)

recent - watching Royals clinch 2014 ALDS (first playoff experience in person)

past - as a Royals fan, I do admit that with instant replay back in the day the game 6 call would have been overturned.

I'm born and raised in Toronto, so the Joe Carter thing is huge, of course. But that was the second title they won. The greatest moment for me was the final out of the 1992 World Series, bottom of the 11th and Otis Nixon bunted to Mike Timlin, over to Joe Carter at 1B for the 4-3 win. Geez, I just got chills again watching the highlight.

I saw a person wearing a KC Royals shirt at Magic Kingdom today.... Can't remember when the last time that happened was.
