Live-ish updates from Brett's Wedding
Posted: Sat Oct 22, 2022 12:57 pm
9:30AM - Brett and I arrived at the reception site for a morning-of trap shoot, hosted by the event site. There are going to be 11 of us, all armed with 12 gauge shotguns. Brett's people all filter in between 9:45 and 10, our group of delinquent mutual friends show up at 10:15 or so because they'd been up until 4 chugging tequila.
10:20AM - Brett divides us into two groups of 5 and the festivities begin. Each shooter gets one shot at 25 clays, launched one at a time.
10:35AM - Our buddy Jeff's wife, Steff (yes, they really are the 'Effs), texts him from the local ER after falling while walking another friends' dog. Potential broken ankle. More updates as we get them.
11:15AM - All participants have fired their 25 shots. The scores are tallied. Brett's dad wins with 19/25, beating your handsome reporter by but a single bird (much butt hurt). Much of the group goes their separate ways to various hotels, cabins, and emergency rooms. 5 of us decide to have lunch at a bar up the road.
11:30AM - We arrive at the bar to have lunch. It's a rough place but also one of those places that could surprise with good food. We go inside, allowing a little cautious optimism to guide us but are quickly rebuffed when the proprietor tells us the kitchen doesn't open until noon. The only other things to eat here seem to be bloody mary ingredients so we retreat, defeated.
1:00PM - The official update on Steff. 2:40PM - The church is across from the police station, which I feel was intentional.
2:42PM - Brett stands at the front of the church, pondering his life choices. 2:58PM -She's here! She actually showed! Brett doesn't cry after the first look because he has no soul.
3:30PM - Man and wife. Vows and rings have been exchanged, first kiss makes it official. Congrats, Brett.
6:00PM - Open bar at the reception, pizza imminent. It's October 22nd and it's 65 degrees at sunset in Northern Wisconsin. Life is good.
8:05PM - 'Shots with Grandma' is a thing in Jen's family, apparently. All of us dudes did shots with Jen's grandma and made her night.
8:44PM - Brett just told everyone he's 'Very Drunk.' Mission accomplished.
