Nostalgic Look
Am I looking at online leagues in a nostalgic way? I started playing OOTP some 16 years ago, to me when I started you could close your eyes spin round throw a dart and odds are you'd hit a good league. Now you could fire a shot gun and be lucky if you hit more than a couple of leagues, see I've always liked looking at the online league section over at the OOTP forums. I like to see the different ways the leagues are set up, different team names all that kind of stuff. You know what looking at the forums I don't think I'd join any, most I wouldn't join if they paid me. Is it me or is it the way it really is?

Re: Nostalgic Look
Some players have different tastes. Some of us have multiple tastes. I will play a league with any type of rules. It helps if it is a well established league and has a limited amount of assholes.

Why do you think that is? Any theories?Clayman wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 4:35 pmAm I looking at online leagues in a nostalgic way? Re: Nostalgic Look
I've no idea to be honest, I know a few guys don't go on the forums anymore but not all of them were in online leagues anyway. I'm not saying every GM stayed in a league for years but seems like GMs drop out quicker but also seems what you call fly by night leagues.

Re: Nostalgic Look
People a have been saying online leagues are dying since 2003 or so....or longer, I suppose. That's just when I started playing.

Re: Nostalgic Look
I know for many (if not all) of the pro basketball simulation leagues I've looked at don't require all owners to actually own the game. I'm just assuming, but this must put strain on the commissioner. Something tells me this is because there are a bunch of young kids joining the league. I know it is apples and oranges regarding OOTP and a pro basketball sim game, but I wonder how many people purchase OOTP compared to the pro basketball sim games. I imagine someone here can find that out?
Could it be the rise of The Show on PlayStation? Maybe more people are playing that live against others?

Re: Nostalgic Look
Always seemed more reliable leagues a few years back, unless I was lucky. What got me thinking about this was the other day a Commish pulled the plug on a league but didn't tell anyone, guys on the OOTP board were asking what had happened, nobody knew. I was never in a league that just quit, good few of the leagues I've been in had multiple Commish. First one is was in the ISBL was started by Fidel Montoya he left and a German guy took over think it was on its third Commish when it stopped, reason it stopped players went fictional.

Re: Nostalgic Look
About the same time as me Ron, they don't seem as reliable as they once were, that's my feelings what I get.

Re: Nostalgic Look
Could be. The long term success of online leagues requires young commishes. So how many young guys start leagues.
