Cut the cord

Post by 7teen » Thu Jul 12, 2018 4:41 pm

So my wife and I finally bit the bullet and canceled our Directv. We’d had it since 2004 but our busy lives and 3 kids pretty much meant we rarely watched tv. And when we did watch it was boredom watch whatever was on or sports. We decided it wasn’t worth paying what we were paying for that.

We are looking at some streaming options. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they think on those? Hulu Live and PSVue seem pretty good and both have things we like.

For now we are sticking with nothing. Maybe catching up on some Netflix stuff for the time being. But I’ll need something to watch the golf majors on and some of the big sporting events at some point.

My wife and I did the same thing earlier this year. We currently subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. We also shamelessly mooch off of my parent's cable (HBO, Showtime, Starz) through our Roku for some additional content. Though to be fair, they mooch off of my Netflix. We find that it's plenty of content for us, and much cheaper than directv.

I assume you have a Roku or something similar?

Haven't had cable or satellite for 20 years. Just antenna and amazon firestick with Hulu and Netflix.

Right now we don’t have anything. In fact we don’t even have home internet. We’ve just been using our phones (unlimited data) and hotspots for viewing stuff.

We’ve looked at PSVue. Hulu Live. Maybe Apple TV. I’ll have to check out roku.

I’ve got loads of dodgy channels all run through an Amazon fire stick Costs me a year what I used to pay in a month, gives me all sorts of US, Canadian, Spanish etc channels plus MLB, NHL & NBA tv. Don’t think it extends to outside the UK though

SlingTV has been pretty great and fairly inexpensive

It’s a nice option if you want to watch sports

I had a "jailbroken" Amazon Firestick Thing when I was in California that I ended up giving my brother when he went to college. It uses a program called Kodi which had all the major TV networks along with all NBA, MLB, NFL, MMA games and all that stuff. It was okay. Not sure how legal it was.
