Post by scottsdale_joe » Mon Jun 25, 2018 8:10 am

Anyone use it?
In ten words or less, what is it?
Any good?

Locks rules, limits auto-play, and tracks your achievements against others. (Ten words exactly!)

It's as good as you are passionate about your own solo leagues. My solo fictional project I want to have full control over, so I don't use Challenge Mode, but then I find that there's not a league I'm interested enough in playing right now to warrant a new Challenge Mode save for myself.

So you play a solo league and it compares your results to other people's solo leagues?

I think that's right.

I admit I've never really understood why that would be interesting, but to each their own.

Essentially. I'm not exactly sure how it's calculated but you earn points relative to your success with the team and the amount and rarity of the in-game achievements that you score, and it gives you a ranking, which you can view online and put into your signature on the OOTP forum.

I could actually see the appeal in this.

I'm really (really, really) enjoying this league so far. But it's my first online league of any type in almost 20 years. Normally, I don't have consistent available time to dedicate... Fortunately, that's changed for me.

Usually, my free time is in chunks... which would fit great for a Challenge Mode scenario. Dumping a few hours here and there when time is available.

I may give it shot.

It doesn’t really directly compare your game with other people’s games, it gives you points for things you achieve for the first time, such as double plays, wins, first trade and on to more complicated achievements, and then compares your number of points to the other leagues. So all you’re really comparing is how many achievements your team has done rather than how good your team is against others. Playing with the Yankees or Red Sox will obviously make it easier to reach achievements than playing with the Marlins

I pretty much only play on-line. Solo leagues bore me. I have two that I use to try things out.
SO, . . . challenge mode not for me.
