Vegas

Post by 7teen » Mon Nov 06, 2017 1:25 pm

So my wife and I have decided to go to Vegas for our 15th anniversary in January. We’ve never been but are really enjoying this traveling to new places thing and chose Vegas. So I’m turning to you guys for what’s best to do there in a 3-4 day span. And best options of places to stay.

Find a blackjack table, play for 16 hours a day, rinse, repeat.

Kidding! (mostly)

A lot depends on your budget and interests. If you can give a little insight in what you guys like, I can be more detailed.

Anyway, my wife and I have stayed at New York New York multiple times, they have a room ("spa suite") that has a hot tub in it that my wife loves. Rates are usually pretty reasonable. I've also stayed at the Tropicana, it's pretty nice, remodeled within the past few years. For fear of sounding like an addict, I won't list all of the hotels I've stayed at, but feel free to ask if you want info on others. One other benefit of anyplace on the strip is that it's close to the airport.

Main downside of the strip (in my opinion) is the high cost of table games. But for shows and sights, you can't beat pretty much anywhere on the strip between, say, Reno Ave to the south, and Sands Ave to the north. Anything outside of that results in a lot of walking to explore the strip.

If you don't want to stay on the strip, then you can do "old" downtown, which is centered around Fremont St. and houses all the classic casinos. Benefits of Fremont St include cheaper food, cheaper gambling, less people. One downside is that the casinos don't have the modern air circulation systems of the strip, and are therefore much smokier. There's also a little retail center called "Container Park" that has some neat little independent stores that I highly recommend.

If you're renting a car and are interested in feats of engineering, the Hoover Dam a is 30-45 minute drive and is just spectacular to see in person.

Anyway that's kinda just my brief (lol) overview. I have plenty more to share though. Let me know what you wanna know about.

Also, not sure where you live, but January in Vegas will be cold. Not Wisconsin cold, but still, cold. Not that that's a bad thing, I would really suggest a winter trip instead of summer.

Oops, I thought this was a thread about Chevy Vegas...Riddler wanted me to see if you were selling them cheap....

Anyway, as to Las Vegas....I haven't been there since 1998...Congrats on your anniversary and have a great time!

We booked yesterday. Staying on the strip at the Aria. I think it's a newer place I believe.

I'll be in Vegas in late November. My brother has a place there and we go each Thanksgiving.

I always suggest taking in a Hustler game if there's one on. :)

I hear their GM is a real prick though and their stadium is a rat hole! Any truth to that?

Their FO has the Commish on the take...they don't have to give a damn about anything else.

I had to go to Vegas in July 2016 for a work conference. I was living in Bakersfield, CA at the time and it was a heat index of 110 degrees so I thought going to Vegas would provide some relief. I was wrong. It was hotter there so going in January sounds like the perfect time.

The conference was at Caesars Palace so we stayed there.

Things I did while I was there:

1.) We rode the "High Roller". I had my wife & 2 kids with me and some lady at Caesars Palace said she was leaving and didn't get a chance to use her "High Roller" Tickets so gave them to us. It's the big ferris wheel thing off the strip. We did that at night so that was okay.

2.) They obviously have a bunch of fountain shows and stuff which were kind of cool.

3.) We would have liked to have gone to some of the shows but since we had the kiddo's with us we couldn't

Two words: Golden Knights.

Go see a hockey game while you're there.

In all seriousness, my wife and I went with some friends a few years ago and stayed at the Stratosphere. A bit off the strip but cheaper and still nice enough. Never did much gambling, not really my thing, but it was fun to just cruise around and take in the sights.
