The Canadian League

Post by Chey » Wed Sep 21, 2016 6:33 pm

In the absence of an MBBA team to call my own, I've been working on creating a solo league that I can sink some time into. I'm hoping to create something interesting, and will be attempting to maintain a Dynasty thread on the OOTP big boards. You can check it out if you want.

Do you guys really consider people from Vancouver Canadians? Last time I was there it was about 95% Asians anyway. My bus driver on the way up to Whistler did keep adding "Eh" to the end of every sentence though.

Do you consider people in Miami Americans? It's 95% Cubans, etc.

It was less the Asians (clearly not really 95%) and more that Vancouver just doesn't FEEL like Canada to me. Not sure exactly what that means. Maybe that it just felt like Seattle north, or like it's Canada's younger brother who's too cool to hang out with the rest of Canada.

Are you saying someone needs to 'Make Canada Great Again'?

Well, maybe I read you wrong, but my interpretation of your statement was that Vancouver didn't feel like Canada because it had a disproportionate (in your opinion) amount of minorities relative to white males drinking Moulson and saying "eh". Which is exactly what a Trump supporter would say about Chicago, Miami, et al. referent to America except replace Moulson with Natty Ice and "eh" with "y'all".

Edit: I didn't see your edit, that does tangibly change the tone. I probably also might need to stop spending so much time investing in this shit-show election - it's making me unhinged.

Yeah, realized that probably came across badly when I saw your response. Was really just making a tongue in cheek poke at Vancouver for no good reason. Perhaps the Asian thing was in bad taste, but it really wasn't about the minorities, just ripping on Vancouver a bit for no good reason.

Well, that doe seem a considerably nobler pursuit. Are you a hockey fan? They once (pretty recently, actually) tried to burn their city down because they lost a playoff series.

I'm a big hockey fan. You just reminded me why I rip on Vancouver. There was a famous Canadianish sports person who was mocking Americans because we always riot when our teams win or lose (which is admittedly the dumbest thing ever. "MY TEAM WON/LOST. LETS DEMOLISH OUR HOME!!!!! WHOOOO!!!). Shortly afterwards Vancouver did what you just mentioned when they lost in the playoffs.

Canadians always riot in the hockey playoffs, we just don't qualify often enough for it to be a "thing".

Yeah, I'd say Seattle is more like Canada than Vancouver is like America.

The real question, though, is who is Canada North?
