I guess you saw that TGC2 is coming out in June didn't you? I watched the trailer. It looks pretty dang good.Bumstead wrote:Congrats! I saw you were going to be real close. The good thing is that Sweeney and Garcia play mostly on the Euro Tour!
I've completely revamped my "swing" and I have spent what time I have played this week just practicing. The tour event was a firm course. I'm not going to D because of a firm course, plus I really need to get this swing down first anyway. Feeling pretty good about it. Once I get a little better feel for distance control with it, my putting is going to be worlds better. Otherwise, I just need to stop with yips off the tee and on the approach. Getting real close I think. I'm looking forward to getting back to where I was and then pushing forward.
You can surprise some folks up there. They won't be expecting it!

Shot -20 in my first tournament (a major) in D. Definite progress. Only a couple of shots ended up where no golf ball had ever been before. So, the swing changes appear to be taking shape; we will see if I can maintain it.

Re: TGC Tours?
that's nice... I had to play Euro this week as the TPC filled up. Only 8 guys missed the cut. I was 1 of the 8. Wasn't very focused. I'm taking my test to be a school administrator next week and been doing a lot of studying for it the last 2 weeks.Bumstead wrote:Shot -20 in my first tournament (a major) in D. Definite progress. I actually ended up only missing an exemption by 3 shots...Oh well, this week's tourney is on an easy course, so I will need to torch it to gain an exemption. Shot -30 in the practice tour, but I hear the winds are up for the real deal all 4 rounds...

Slowly things are starting to turn around:
R1: -7
R2: -8
R3: -4
R4: -10
Winds were roaring all 4 rounds, but they were the worst in the 2nd round. Got to -9 in the 2nd round through 12 or 14 and then had 2 bogies and then hammered a birdie in on 18...Round 3, ridiculous...just missed putt after putt...Round 4 was nice in that it was the 4th round and I didn't cave because of the 3rd round and I persevered through the wind and the tougher pins. -29 won't win, but hopefully I'm back in C next week.

Re: TGC Tours?
Nice to see you're getting things back together. My game is going in the opposite direction. I haven't had a lot of time to do much lately. Was studying for my Educational Administration test for the past month and took the test last week. Hoping now that school is out I can get back into playing and practicing TGC more and get things straightened out in Madison. But with two kids still playing travel baseball and the possibilities of me moving into a principalship position next school year I'm not holding my breath....Bumstead wrote:Slowly things are starting to turn around:

Re: TGC Tours?
-29 again this week. Only shot -3 the last round, which will keep me out of contention for the win, but I think there's about a 63.7% chance I get an exemption to B. I figure by the time I get back to where I should be, we will switch to TGC2 and I will be starting over again...Good luck with the Principle "thing!" It's funny how life doesn't recognize the importance of TGC....

Re: TGC Tours?
A third straight missed cut for me on the PGA/Euro
Shot
68
66
-10
For my two rounds which will be about 5 strokes off the cut line. I finished out the tournament and shot
65
63
To close at -26 for the whole event. I'm betting that beats some in the top 70 but won't count. It's not much fun on PGA when guys are shooting in the 50s all 4 rounds and I'm just hoping to make cut.

Yeah, I think the Web might have some entertainment value, but the PGA/Euro tours are tough; you can't make any mistakes and recover. Some of these people are just ridiculous at the game.

Well I was right. Had I made the cut, my -26 would have placed me in a tie for 61st. The winner shot -51. I'd have to play 8 rounds to shoot that. Hah

Re: TGC Tours?
hahaha
I got an exemption back to B. Played this week's tournament and opened up with: -5, -2....seriously...shot -15 the last 2 rounds and ended up at -22. Probably 50/50 on whether I hold onto that exemption or not.
Played 3 rounds of US Open qualifying. Got to the first tee and the wind is blowing 18 MPH...Oh joy...ridiculous winds and firm greens...how fun...79...followed that up with a 65 and a 58. Had a painful bogie and a couple of near misses in that 3rd round too. That was a fun round. Now onto the 4th round and firm greens again...If I shoot 15 or 20 under after a +7 first round, I will be pretty happy.

Re: TGC Tours?
Good luck in B this week Dug. Saw you were there on exemption. My buddy is currently in B as well.
I'm playing the Euro this week as I failed to qualify for the US Open. After finishing dead last on the PGA last week and my 6th straight missed cut in about ready to stop and wait for TGC2 to come out.
I shot -4 in round 1 which currently has me tied for..... LAST again in Euro. Was able to follow it up with a nice -11 (60) in round 2 so might be safe to make Euro cut this week. Granted I'm a lock to make it as there are only about 50 registered players this week since all the big fish are playing the Open.

Re: TGC Tours?
Thanks. Looks like a dart course this week...somebody has already shot -15 in round 1...I shot -18 the first 2 rounds in practice. Looks like I will fall short on making it to web before the end of the season. I'm finally back to hitting the ball where I want instead of just trying to hit it straight. I failed the US Open qualifying myself, but I did shoot a 58 in Round 3 which was fun....I finished only 210 spots short of making it!7teen wrote:Good luck in B this week Dug. Good luck this week! I think TGC2 might be a refreshing change, especially for the upper tours. Have you ordered it yet. I pre-ordered it the other day. I'm finally getting my swing down again and now the whole dynamic is changing. All about "tempo" I hear. Flopping, pitching and chipping are completely different. No more lofting a 3-iron up 4 levels either. That will hurt some of the top players. But, heck, they play way more than we do, so eventually it will be right back to the way it was.

Shot -41 for the week and -12 in the 4th round to get an exemption back to A. The course this week looks like it has a couple of firm rounds, so I will have to be on my game for those. How did you end up last week?

I'll just say I'm ready for the new release so I can get out of the PGA tour. I played the Euro this week on a crossover. Very frustrating event but luckily there was no cut since there weren't enough people signed up to have one due to the U.S. Open event all the top guys were in.
My rounds were
-4 67
-11 60
+3 74
-6 65
I don't know how I didn't break something in that round 3. I had 6 birdies in the round but also had 6 bogeys and a triple on the last hole in which I hit 5 putts. It seemed like every hole I was above the pin with no shot at anything. The greens were set on 189 speed. On 3 occasions I had 5 foot putts for birdie and ended up with a bogey. 5 of the 6 bogeys I had were of the 3-putt variety.
I realistically could have had a top 20 finish this week if not for that one round.
This week's event already has a guy posting a -19 (53) on the board. I'll likely miss the cut again! haha

Re: TGC Tours?
Picked up my copy a few hours ago. Just played 3 rounds with tour clubs. Whatever swing mechanics you had worked out in 1, Dug, throw them out. Haha. Getting used to tour clubs is a challenge. If the Tours decides everyone uses tour clubs it will be a challenge for everyone I would say.
I played 3 practice rounds on Tarantula from the white tees I believe. I shot
84 +12
88 + 16
78 +6
Got my tempo down a little better in that last round. Managed to shoot -2 on the back 9. Learned early on if you down swing too fast on a flop shot you'll skull it over the green.

Re: TGC Tours?
Hey Chris7teen wrote:Picked up my copy a few hours ago.
Just dropped in to say hi. I'm still playing TGC2 but I am terrible. I think I figured something out recently when I went from hitting great to hitting all over the place. I went and dug up one of the old controller that hook directly into the console. Then, like magic, I started hitting straight-ish...You might try it as I have always played using a wireless controller, but I get so many glitches with the damn game...
I'll try not to be as strange. I just needed a break. It's been good. I hope all is well with you.

Re: TGC Tours?
I just started getting the hang of the game this week. I bought it on release date and used nothing but tour clubs. I was all over the place. Inconsistent. Was very frustrated with the game. Two weeks ago I changed approaches and started watching my hands on swings and doing a better job on timing. And like magic, started doing well. I shot -11 in round 2 of this weeks PGA event. Too bad I shot E in round 1- I'll will miss the cut and earn my 5th strike. I'll be demoted to Web again next week heading into season 4. Probably where I need to be right now anyway but at least I'm having more success with the game now.
