Custom Ammys, 2006-2007

Name: Jay "JP" Pearson
Bats: R
Throws: R
Age: 19
Hometown: Moody, AL
Position: INF
Ethnicity: White
Bio: JP's baseball IQ is off the charts. This gives him an insight into his strengths and weaknesses compared to other players which he combines with a hard-nosed approach to impose his will on game situations so that they favor his strongest skills and minimize his weakest (which are glaringly obvious in both cases due mostly to being at one extreme or the other). On the plus side, he is lightning-quick with his hands and his first step, is a master of fundamentals, and has a Howitzer for an arm. In the field that makes him a model third baseman and a game-saving first baseman able to save all but the worst throws, while at the plate he excels at getting in the head of pitchers and using his quick hands to fight off nearly anything until he gets what he's looking for...which means he rarely strikes out and can force a starter to burn through his pitch count or jump on a struggling guy's first pitch. All of that is fortunate because JP is almost comically slow and, with very little interest in swinging for the fences, regularly finds himself in his most vulnerable situation: on the basepaths. He tries to compensate by using his excellent instincts, but slow is slow...a fact that also limits the value of his glove, quickness, and arm when he is forced into service at second base or shortstop. If he can reach it, he'll retire it - and his quickness allows him to rob a hit now and then - but the "reaching it" part is definitely a struggle. Pearson also wears his emotions in full view and has little patience with losing, but he loves the game - a fact that has hampered recruiting from colleges as he shows little interest in getting the best arrangement possible, he just wants to play.
