Now onto a bit of BBA PPT Esoterica…
EXPORT Rate
The BBA exported at a 94.5% success rate, the 8th straight season that registers in at over 91%. Go us.
Despite a (relatively) little turnover, UMEBA numbers soared 89%--a new record. It’s not a surprise that the league was really competitive and had a great set of post season playoffs. I not that I’ve now started accounting overall PPT as UMEBA + vultures in order to give folks who are waiting for teams a way to roll into these numbers.
Three Make the 200 Club
We had three GMs crest the 200 point level this year: me, Vic Caleca, and Justin Niles—Justin’s third season in arow. We also had a vulture hit that total – super-vulture Ted Schmidt. Go figure. (I can’t help but note that the Heartland totally kicks ass).
- Al Hoot (2002)
- Ed Murphy (2012, 2013, 2022)
- Aaron Weiner (2019, 2020, 2021)
- Ron Collins (2027, 2031-2044)
- Joe Lederer (2039, 2042)
- Vic Caleca (2040, 2041, 2042, 2044)
- Nigel Laverick (2041-2043)
- Justin Niles (2042-2044)
- Neill Thomas (2042)
- Chris Wilson (2042)
- Mike Simon (2042)
- Ted Schmidt (2044)
Turnover
After a tough post-covid cycle, we’ve had a really stable season, with only Scott Picolli needing to step down due to outside issues. We’re looking forward to having him back when he’s ready. I might note, too, that in checking on various PPT-related stuff, I’m quite excited to see several ex- GM’s logging in to take a peak at what we’re doing. Here’s to hoping a few more have things getting settled enough to be excited about coming back.
That said, the UMEBA’s GM ranks do seem to have swelled again with guys who are getting really active. It’s probably too early, but I can see if we keep brining this kind of quality in that bumping back to 10 or 12 teams could be in the cards in another season or two.
I am aware of another few GMs who were severely limited by outside pressures, including, if I’m honest, me.
Bottom line, the league’s health seems to be really solid.
Let’s Look at Some Charts, Shall We?:
Of course I track this shit, because, what else am I supposed to do when I’m avoiding my writing, right?
BBA
You can see by these charts what I mean by the overall numbers looking to increase. I do not think we will ever see another season like 2042—when we were mostly stuck inside—and we shouldn’t ever hope for one.
UMEBA
For the first time ever, here are the UMEBA numbers—augmented by vultures (and in this case, Ted). Since Ted had no team, the TN numbers show the UMEBA was pretty solid. We’ve added requirements for next year that will likely boost these just a touch. Regardless, the numbers may be stabilizing. We shall see.
