Omaha accepts. sent in game.

Please just ask AAA manager for lineup and depth charts, same with AA.

Gee, thanks for helping to keep this league the borderline migraine that it is. If it's a lousy trade, I'll own it.

Matt:

I've made room for both on the roster. Please put Bure in a setup role, and Gonzales in middle relief.

If Gonzales starts pitching to those ratings, it won't be a terrible trade. But to me, the questionable aspect is a rebuilding team unlikely to make the playoffs giving up a very good pitching prospect and a decent OF prospect to acquire a 33 year old reliever having a career year and a SP prospect that hasn't really been able to hold up as a starter at any level above A-ball.

Like I said, if Gonzales comes on, the deal will look better. But I don't see Bure and Gonzales being the difference between playoffs and no playoffs for Huntsville.

It's not a bad trade in the sense that Bure is still useful and Gonzalez could well still be an upper part of the order pitcher. Huntsville is still in the run, really, at 12% chance of the playoffs per StatsPlus. Though those odds are long for my blood, it's reasonable to make a now for then kind of deal in this situation, and Huntsville needed to boost its staff if it was going to improve those odds.

You can also argue Huntsville including Ly in the deal is moving from a position of strength...and that both he and Dooley still have some not-inconsiderable development risk (Dooley's already lost a point of stuff, another point and his Big Blue "70" will drop pretty quick)--if I were projecting, Dooley and Gonzalez will probably wind up a bit of a wash, but who can really project the development engine? Yes, if everyone hits the ceiling of this deal the overall picture will register heavy toward Omaha, but (1) not everyone is going to hit their ceiling, and (2) I'll try to never criticize a guy for making a move that brings in good players that fit a need.

Giving up Dooley is the big head scratcher for me. Not only was he your #1 pick and one of the best starting prospects in the league, he was already pitching at a high level as a big league reliever...which is what you traded him for.

At worst, you can say Huntsville overpaid, but then, who among us hasn't done that at one time or another? I just sat through listening to a whole conversation last night about deals that didn't work out. Shrug.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Dooley's record shows him at AA and never higher.

Most of these conversations come down to "I would have given you more" or "you should have gotten more" ... which is fine. But that discounts the fact that in this case Huntsville went out and got two bullpen guys--which is exactly what they need right now.

A year from now, if Dooley lumps, this one will look pretty okay. Otherwise, Vic will probably regret it.

Will it work? I dunno. My guess is not. But Vic's already proven to be a pretty capable GM overall and he's already a great part of the world here. He's got the keys to the Huntsville car, a half a pack of cigarettes, and a full tank of gas. I give him the right to drive it where ever the hell he wants.

And if that 12% chance does come up, then the deal could well be the thing that marked the first time the franchise has been in the playoffs since 2031 ... so I'll just chill over in the corner from here out. :)
