Wow. That's a lot of prospect space for one expensive pitcher. Someone doesn't think his window's very big.

Re: New Orleans/Phoenix
Lumpy LaLoosh has been DFA'd. (Feels good to write that!). What a waste. So glad I am done with him.
Please place Amaral in the open #2 starter slot with a pitch count of 100. Thank You.

Re: New Orleans/Phoenix
I thought so too at first. But then I looked at the prospects more closely. Fernandez is awfully underdeveloped for his age, and Baez is one range lump (which is almost guaranteed to happen by age 25) from being unplayable in the OF. He's also just barely 18, which makes him what 60/40 to even develop? With the range concerns, he needs to be in the bigs from age 21-25, and he's pretty raw at 18.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2019 5:48 amWow. I'm not saying these are bad prospects. They're good. I'd love to have them. But Klooster is the only real blue chipper. And that's a crippling deal on Laloosh thta Marko got out of that would have made certain his window was short, given that it would have prevent him from extending likely two good players.
Plus Amaral's a solid arm at a reasonable (maybe slightly high) price. Of course, now that he's in Phoenix, his shoulder will explode. I wonder if they'll have him throw right handed just to be safe?

Re: New Orleans/Phoenix
Agree on Fernandez. He looked really nice as an IC guy, but he hasn't developed particularly well and now he's 20 and has a long way to go. He's also already got a slight split on his RHB. He's doing okay at A-ball. Strikes out a ton, though. Still possible, and he could still make the marquee kind of strata, but I'd like him more as a elite guy if he was up a notch.
Baez may well increase as decrease in the field. Interesting prospect without big splits. As long as he holds his defense he could wind up playing every day on the cheap. He was like #4 or #5 on the Phoenix depth chart of OF prospects, probably not even in their top level plans...though a solid enough prospect.
Agree on Klooster. His Gap is a huge deal, and won't strike out a ton. He's better developed than Fernandez, and his C ability is solid. Good intangibles. I personally think he's the best prospect in the bunch.
Not a bad deal all around, assuming Jim is going full rebuild here. It's interesting, at least. It really only costs NO $10M in cap space (whereas it saves Phoenix $10M), and the Crawdads are going to be young for a while, so that's not really going to hurt them. It will leave Phoenix with a hole at C soon, but $10M in cap space can solve that pretty quickly, and it adds mega-depth to an already top tier farm system.

It's a sad situation seeing LaLoosh like this, though. Dire warning to guys signing Yellow Springs free agents.

Re: New Orleans/Phoenix
You guys are pretty spot in with my thinking here. I hated taking in this salary. I’m hopeful I can at least get a #5 starter out of laloosh. We’ll see.
I almost didn’t do this trade because of the prospects. Fernandez and Baez are big risks IMO. Defense isn’t great. Underdeveloped, and lacking speed. And I love klooster, but frankly he isn’t the best catcher in my farm system. I really wanted a SP prospect back, but that wasn’t in the cards.
Either way, there was surprisingly little interest in Amaral. I almost pulled him off the block and tried again in the off-season.
Now as long as that salary doesn’t kill me...

Looking at it, Fernandez as also dropped a potential point in Power, Eye, and AvK. If I had to bet on a final spot for him it would be as a solid, but not really elite guy. But who really knows?

Re: New Orleans/Phoenix
I wanted him, but I couldn't pull the trigger giving an elite pitching prospect because, well, let's face it, he can't get RHB out particularly well. And he's not getting any younger. $13M is a pretty good price point, though. If I took him, it would be with the idea of trying to have him around to beat face California.JimBob2232 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2019 6:00 pmEither way, there was surprisingly little interest in Amaral.
