California/Nashville

Post by Ted » Tue Jan 22, 2019 2:34 pm

Nashville Receives:
SP Knud Zeitler (on DL)
SP Heinrich Peithner
P Arturo Ornelas (AAA)
P Jose Rangel (AAA - DL)

California Receives:
OF David Simpson (A)
P Miguel Ayala (SA)
1B Luis Galindo
P Ronald Stewart

Peithner has been DFA'd

Please place Ayala in SA, no need to set a role. Simpson in A as starting LF. Galindo and Stewart are minor salary dumps (I suppose I could have just sent Nash the cash to buy them out himself). If they put me over the cap, just release them. I'm going to do it later anyway.

I think describing me as your mentor is a bit of a stretch. A) I'd never field some of the pitching staffs you tried. 2) My reaction to all your trades when you got here was, "What the hell?" C) You never really needed any help.

This trade should elevate Nashville in 2038 for sure. They already have a solid offense and adding Peithner and Knud to the rotation will slot down Likiliki, Luna, and Ramirez to more respectable spots. Jacksonville will probably still win the division, but with Huntsville, New Orleans and Louisville all kind of stuck in the middle right now, Nashville is emerging as the clear 2nd place team in that division as it stands now.

Should Zietler and to a lesser extent Rangel get healthy and stay healthy, I think Nashville wins this deal. I'm not too concerned about either's ability to recover, but more how many seasons before the next big injury. I haven't had a franchise bat since I got into the league though, and Simpson hopefully gets me that. I'm overloaded at 1B/DH, and corner OF though, so I'll need to do some more maneuvering soon.

With his second UCL in two years, I think there has to be some question as to whether Zeitler will ever pitch again (or at least ever pitch with any effectiveness). He'll not be making any impact on Nashville this year, regardless.

I actually wonder about that. The first one was 9 months and partially torn. This was like 14 and torn. Did he just rehab that first one? Is OOTP sophisticated enough to do that?

I thought about it for a long time before I pulled the trigger. Zeitler hasnt lost any current or potential or even pitch ratings in the 4 months he has had the injury. Yeah, there is still time for that to happen but it was a risk I was willing to take. He wont even be back next season either, but he'll be replacing Peithner the following season when his contract runs out. Zeitler did manage to pitch 163 innings in the season following the partial tear and then went 20 innings in this season before going down.

All-in-all, he has been factored into The Plan® no matter how it turns out. In the meantime, we're making that push to get the Goats back in the playoffs for the first time since 2025.
