San Fernando-Nashville
Nashville gets:
SS Voitto Strömberg (AA)
SP Francisco Luna (AAA)
P Francis Jesty (AAA)
C Jose Gamboa
San Fernando gets:
SS Angel Garcia (AAA)
SP Francisco Bustamante (AAA)
DH Joe Wilcox
San Fernando confirms, please put Garcia in the open spot on the major league lineup, Wilcox on the major league bench and Bustamante on the AAA rotation (ask manager for AAA rotation). Assuming sim is Saturday, I will create spots for the other 2 on the 27 man tonight and export.
This deal was basically 3 trades in one. The salary swap of Wilcox/gamboa which is a better fit for each of our rosters. Bustamante/jesty is a swap of AAA pitchers who probably need some help and time to contribute at the BBA level. The major piece here is Garcia for Stromberg/Luna. Garcia is a better fit for my park (and a little better overall), and Luna is the tax to make up the talent difference between the two.
EDIT: Garcia will be the SS on the BBA roster, put wilcox on the bench please. Lineup spots are open and export made. The 4 players have been DFAd

Confirmed.
Please put Gamboa in DH spots for both lineups. All the rest can be sent to AAA; please ask manager for rotation and lineups. I'll make room on the AAA roster tonight and export.
Thanks Randy.

Re: San Fernando-Nashville
That's a lot to digest. I have an initial gut feeling about who won this deal but it's not an easy one to break down. Might do a full blown trade analysis on this one.

what is your gut, just curious? And the fact that you have to think a lot about it means it probably comes out pretty close to even I would imagine. Re: San Fernando-Nashville
Wilcox and Gamboa are both expiring and Bustamante and Jesty are darn near clones (regardless of what you might think of them). So it's Stromberg+Luna for Garcia. Is picking up an okay SP prospect worth 2 points of POW on your future 2B? Maybe in some cases. Maybe not this one. I'm willing to accept that value is in the eye of the beholder here.

Re: San Fernando-Nashville
interesting. I definitely got the best player in the trade, but I don't think it was lopsided either way. I really didn't want to give up luna because he is that depth in the rotation that every contending team needs, but I dug my heels in on added Hopkins or Ec.recte44 wrote:First reaction is Havana won handily.

Re: San Fernando-Nashville
Stromberg, and Garcia, can play SS and 2B equally well, and both can handle 3B too. Two points of power for an okay SP? Yes. Still has decent power that I can live with. I also think Stromberg is a slight upgrade defensively. Will that translate to being equal to the loss in potential HRs? Probably not, but it helps. Stromberg is also better on the base paths, that works for me as well. I also like Stromberg's intangibles a little better.agrudez wrote:Stromberg+Luna for Garcia. Overall, let's face it, the Goats are far from needing 1-2 players to get them to the playoffs. If trading the 4.5 star player gets a 4 and a 3 star, well, I'll take a bunch of really good players over a couple superstars and a bunch of scrubs.

Re: San Fernando-Nashville
By the (not always correct) view that the best player in the deal went to San Fernando, the Bears win. But we're talking prospects here. Luna's got a nice repertoire and is only 20--so like most prospect laden deals, you have to wait a while to find out what really happens. There's a not horrible chance that he'll turn out pretty good. It would take only one semi-solid bump. If that happens (or if Garcia lumps much), then Nashville wins.
Playing the probability game I'd say there's a better chance San Fernando won, but if Nashville wins, they'll win bigger.

luna already being developed fully with his movement and control at 20 does bode decently for bumping purposes, especially since he was only drafted last year.RonCo wrote:By the (not always correct) view that the best player in the deal went to San Fernando, the Bears win. I will also say that I think Gamboa is a more useful player than Wilcox, FWIW.

That he's 20 bodes better than that he's developed.usnspecialist wrote:luna already being developed fully with his movement and control at 20 does bode decently for bumping purposes, especially since he was only drafted last year.
That he's developed means he's more likely to be able to take advantage of a bump if he gets one.
To put numbers on my earlier thought:
5% chance SFB won huge
25% chance SFB won big
30% chance that SFB won a little
10% chance that it's even
0% chance NSV won a little
30% chance that NSH won huger than SFB would win

Re: San Fernando-Nashville
I think the odds that NSH wins bigger than SF are really, really low (both 2B are near fully developed and the one is clearly superior - probably the difference between a good player and an all-star contender). It would pretty much require Luna to bump - which can't possibly be as high as 30%.

Re: San Fernando-Nashville
FWIW (not sure if this matters in the calculation) but Garcia is likely the long term answer at SS for me with Gillstrom sliding over to 2B. Stromberg would have filled that role in a year or so as well.

I don't let my SS have less than a 9 range in an ideal situation, but if you're willing to play one of these two at SS then I'd wager you'd be equally happy with either in that role.

9 would be nice, but since I took over I have been rolling with either a 6 (gillstrom) or a 7 (wareham) out there, so the 8 is a step up for me haha.agrudez wrote:I don't let my SS have less than a 9 range in an ideal situation, but if you're willing to play one of these two at SS then I'd wager you'd be equally happy with either in that role.
