Confirmed. Thanks for the deal Bum! Brown is the one I fear... he could be great. I am hoping the guys I acquired can perform a bit better than expected in my park. Voorny could go either way but I hope for the best. This should be fun to watch play out.

Brown is probably going to come back around to bite you. But dumping $20M this year in dead salary and filling up with decent "here now" youth is an interesting move.

Need to mix this up... status quo was not working so why not. Halifax is used to being burnt down the road. See that Cfer in las Vegas!

Re: Twin Cities / Halifax
brown is 7 years away - worry about that day when (if!) it comes. for now, bryn freed 20m in dead cash and grabbed 2 very good, young players. sign me up for that every time.

Re: Twin Cities / Halifax
You'll probably regret it, but if money is a problem, getting rid of $20m is HUGE! I still regret letting two very good prospects go for Workman and a big contract relief. However, getting rid of that salary (and Brainwaive's money as well) will allow me to actually get this franchise in a good place financially.trmmilwwi wrote:Confirmed. Thanks for the deal Bum! I'm not sold on Jacky and Cisco being 'very good' just yet. We'll see if they are .240 hitters or .260-.270 hitters. Anything in between those numbers are possible with a 6 contact. Ortiz does have good defensive value though, so that will be a huge factor.agrudez wrote:brown is 7 years away - worry about that day when (if!) it comes. for now, bryn freed 20m in dead cash and grabbed 2 very good, young players. sign me up for that every time.
Not that this is a bad deal or anything. But I do find it interesting that the guy who wrote off 6 contact hitters about 2 seasons ago is calling 6 contact hitters very good :D

He got old. It happens... Which is why those mega contracts out into the mid 30s are risky. Of course.

So, you are saying that when the Reds signed Joey Votto till he was 40, with a no trade clause, that might have been risky at $20M+ per annum???RonCo wrote:He got old. It happens... Which is why those mega contracts out into the mid 30s are risky. Of course.

Re: Twin Cities / Halifax
I didn't say you shouldn't take a risk.
The Reds also have a slight advantage in that the league does not mandate a salary cap, but those are tiny little things. That said, when Votto goes south at 34, those last six years are going to be annoying to someone not named Votto. :)

Go re-read that chain of posts. I never begrudged a 6 CON LHB. Hell, I employ half a lineup worth of them on any given day.udlb58 wrote:But I do find it interesting that the guy who wrote off 6 contact hitters about 2 seasons ago is calling 6 contact hitters very good :D

What's getting interesting to me is that given the hit offense has taken in the last half a decade, I'm now considering 6 CON RHBs if the have great ratings at some combo of eye/power/speed and a 5 CON LHB is now a viable option at middle infield or CF.

Re: Twin Cities / Halifax
I guess there's been a little uptick in offense--perhaps focused on the JL...perhaps mostly due to Huntsville's new park (which will make Lacaze look like a mega-stud)...dunno. But it hasn't been much.

Re: Twin Cities / Halifax
I suppose it's all a supply and demand thing, though.
At SS, for example, the league has only 15 or so guys who are 7 CON and above, and another couple 6 CONS. And four or five of those guys have some other medium major warts. So, given that there are now 28 teams, if you can find a 5 CON player at SS with solid sidecar numbers, or good splits, or whatever, you can grab yourself a league average or above player on the cheap.
