Shane Peel

I never released him. Last I saw him he was still on my IL.

Not sure what contract clause would have triggered his release.

Usually it's the "major league option" that allows a player to elect free agency if not promoted by May 1st. Looks like he exercised that.

So the major league option is actually a major league mandate?

Useless.

No, not a mandate, not all players who accepted minor league deals with a ML option decide to leave. Its a roll of the dice. Like in RL baseball.

Here are the ones who did in the last sim, a lot of guys but I doubt this is everyone who signed a minor league deal.

Nashville Bluebirds: Granted SP Bialy Musialowski free agency because of a contract clause.
Yellow Springs Nine: Granted LF Gilberto Villanueva free agency because of a contract clause.
Chicago Black Sox: Granted 2B Rafael Sánchez free agency because of a contract clause.
Vancouver Mounties: Granted SP Luis Rodríguez free agency because of a contract clause.
Sacramento Mad Popes: Granted RP Bryce Emery free agency because of a contract clause.
Valencia Stars: Granted SP Shane Peel free agency because of a contract clause.
Valencia Stars: Granted SP An-yi Lan free agency because of a contract clause.
Montreal Blazers: Granted SP Zhi-peng Bu free agency because of a contract clause.
Montreal Blazers: Granted SP Jacome Kretzchner free agency because of a contract clause.
Montreal Blazers: Granted SP Arturo Saldaña free agency because of a contract clause.
Rockville Pikemen: Granted CF Chuck Dickens free agency because of a contract clause.
Calgary Pioneers: Granted SP Alfonso Guillén free agency because of a contract clause.
Calgary Pioneers: Granted SP Kenny Kelly free agency because of a contract clause.
Las Vegas Hustlers: Granted RP Fedya Manakov free agency because of a contract clause.

Yes, I've had guys stay past the initial 30 days. Like you, I had a guy who chose to exercise his option from the trainer's room. Bless his confidence!

To put it another way. My minor league system is a hellscape of tears and broken teenage bodies. It would be the height of folly to give players a way out.
