Rule 5 eligibility of tradees
Okay... I was going through the Rule 5 pool and saw the name of the shortstop, Setiawan Sumual, who I just acquired in my trade with Rockville. I thought, "that's odd... I didn't think he was rule 5 eligible", but I didn't want to lose him, so I moved him to my 40 man. Then I noticed that the two other young guys I got in the deal are also in the pool. So I looked at the rules again, to make sure I understood them, and I'm pretty sure none of them should be Rule 5 eligible:
Setiawan Sumual- age 21, just drafted last year
Kelyn Lomond, age 21- two professional seasons
Hilarius Stohl- age 21- three professional seasons
It's very possible that I don't understand the eligibility rules correctly, and if that's the case I apologize for taking up your time, but I can't give up three 40-man spots if I don't have to, especially in the situation El Paso is in, talent-wise. If it turns out that Sumual doesn't need to be on the 40, is there a way to remove him without exposing him to waivers? If not, I'll just suck it up and take my medicine...
Thanks in advance...

Re: Rule 5 eligibility of tradees
I'll take a stab at this -
Lomond was a scouting find in 2042. My understanding is that their clocks start as soon as they hit the international complex so he might actually be eligible.
The other guys? They don't seem like they should be eligible. However, the all have in their player history that they were released by Rockville. Not sure if something funky happened when the trade was submitted in game or anything but if they got put back in your system as minor league signees the game would think they're eligible because free agents that get signed to minor league deals are eligible right away.
Not sure if any of this is helpful or correct but my best guess is that something happened before the trade was executed on Rockville's side. Hopefully it can all get resolved for you.

Re: Rule 5 eligibility of tradees
I got stung like that a few times, players not coming back from the old Florida Prospect League we used to have. Once Matt had rounded them up, they were of course showing R5 eligible because they had become free agent signees.

Re: Rule 5 eligibility of tradees
Okay, that makes sense... So I went ahead and moved Lomond to my 40-man. That puts me at 39. I'll submit a two-round Rule 5 draft list. If the commish can remove Sumual before the the draft, I'll get to make two picks; if not, I won't bitch about it. If the easiest course of action is for me to just waive Sumual and have you instruct everyone not to claim him, I'll do that; I won't submit the file till I have instructions from you.
Thanks everyone for your help and explanations...

Matt will take care of this. This trade wasn't meant to be anywhere near this complicated - OOTP had other ideas.

Re: Rule 5 eligibility of tradees
Bottom line: I waived another guy, so I'm at 38 and can make 2 rule 5 picks, which is all I want. Lomond and Sumual are on the 40, so they're cool. I'm holding the line on Stohl not needing to be on the 40, so if someone picks him in the draft I may have to pitch a minor hissy fit ...
Still don't understand why the three prospects I got in the Rockville trade have caused so much grief, but whatever...
