UMEBA and free agency
Umm, Mario Guerrer is talking to Manama. And asking for less than he's asking for from California.

Re: UMEBA and free agency
19.916 x 6 for Cal.
17 x 3 for Manama.
I guess that answers the question as to whether player asking price is related to league revenue.

Re: UMEBA and free agency
pretty sure this was a thing with the EBA too. Thing is that the budgets are so low that they couldn't ever sign anyone like this, even if they are asking for less.

Re: UMEBA and free agency
In the EBA that was the case. In the UMEBA we have plenty of money and cap space.

It's not just Geurrer by the way. I'd say a fifth or so of the top FA's are talking to me.

Re: UMEBA and free agency
Suggestions (I'm certain there are other ideas):
1) Lower the league rep every year from BBA end of season to opening day before raising it to it's normal value.
2) Make a rule that UMEBA teams can't bid on players who played in the BBA the previous season, until Jan 1 or Feb 1 or something.
3) Raise the expected pay rate of UMEBA regulars so I don't have half my cap space to throw at Guerrer and we function like the EBA used to
4) Lower the UMEBA cap by 10 mil or so.

Ok I did a combination of all of those things. Also adjusted financials a bit- they were getting out of whack as I fully expected in the first few years.

Re: UMEBA and free agency
Hmm, this is probably going to require a bit more tinkering. Anyway, sorry to create a ruckus. Almost no one out of the top 40 or so players is talking to me know, which seems appropriate, at least while BBA opportunities are out there. It may be okay for the cap to go back to where it was? Or maybe that's too much too fast? Brett's been over hwer the whole time and I'm sure he has ideas. I dunno. Again, not trying to be a meddler. I'm not totally convinced OOTP can handle having both these FA's simultaneously.
Does anyone know if the player are more amenable to going to the UMEBA once the season actually starts and BBA jobs ar less likely? Or do you have to move the league rep to where it was previously for UMEBA teams to get any action? If the latter is the case, the best option might really be to turn down the UMEBA league rep until spring training or the start of the BBA season (or maybe earlier, i think this point can be debated), and then turn it back up.
As fun as it was, MArio Guerrer and a bunch of 55-60 grade BBA players being willing to talk to UMEBA teams on day 1 of FA is not really something that seems like a good idea.

Re: UMEBA and free agency
So I’m basically going to dial down league rep until preseason when I will put it back to 9, which simulates what we want.

Ive only been actually over since the playoffs ended and I pulled some salary out of AAA. Gotta love them pro-rated contracts...Ted wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 11:25 pmHmm, this is probably going to require a bit more tinkering. Anyway, sorry to create a ruckus. Re: UMEBA and free agency
I only meant over in the sense of "over in the umeba" not over the cap. Sorry for being unclear.bschr682 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 10:45 pmIve only been actually over since the playoffs ended and I pulled some salary out of AAA. No worries. I’m definitely over going into this season because I’m rolling with 4 highly paid outfielders right now. Someone trade with me already!

Re: UMEBA and free agency
Now that Ted freaked me out and I thought I did my math wrong I went and checked. I was not over last year so I did the math right (Barajas spent time in AAA lowering his salary) but I had been sure I was going into this offseason over and would have to make a move. I just checked and im under.
What exactly did you change recte? The only thing I can think of is that I saw a couple of the guys I had released (and was on the hook for salary still owed) officially retired. Would that wipe away future money I owed to them? If so that's awesome...
