Des Moines Kernals Trade Block

Post by Patrick M » Thu Apr 13, 2023 12:24 pm

At the time of this post, Des Moines is 61-62 and a longshot to reach the post season. I know there isn't a lot of time until the trade deadline but a lot of these names could just as easily be moved in the off-season. While currently a talented roster we are projected to be at the cap for Free-Agency so in most deals I would be looking for salary relief. If that's not an option, I would trade the top hitters on the block for pitching of similar salary.

SS Juan Medrano - 75/75
2054 All-Star, great defender, top of the lineup hitter, "fragile" tag but only two day-to-day injuries in the past two seasons, 21st in OBP at .373 this season. Four years remaining at $12M per, last two are team-options. Turns 34 in September. Extremely Popular. Good on base paths.

RF/LF Jose Romero - 75/75

3x All-Star, 2052 Golden Bat, good defender, middle of the lineup hitter, "fragile" tag but only two day-to-day injuries in the past two seasons, 8th in OPS vs. RHP at 1.030 this season. Four years remaining at roughly $11M per, no options. Turned 33 in May. Extremely Popular. Good on base paths.

3B/2B/1B Felix Parreno - 75/75
2x All-Star, better at 2B/1B but forced to 3B here, middle of the lineup hitter, "fragile" tag but no injuries in the past two seasons, former top 5 prospect, hits both RH/LH at a high level. Has one-year remaining at $6.9M and is looking for a 6-year extension at $13M per. Extremely Popular. Good on base paths.

CF/LF/1B Hasheem Makin - 70-70
3x All-Star, 1x Diamond Glove, versatile defender, middle of the lineup hitter, "normal" injury, former top 10 prospect, hits both RH/LH at a high level. Has one-year remaining at $8.2M and will not entertain extensions until he's in that last year. Turned 28 in March. Extremely popular. Good on base paths.

SP Scott Davis - 55/55
1x Pitcher of the Month, OSA says "solid mid-rotation starter", "fragile" tag but only one day-to-day injuries in the past two seasons, former #2 overall prospect who appears to have declined a bit in stuff the past two seasons. Has two-years remaining at $8.5M per, both team options. Turned 29 in October. Very popular.

A few other names can be found on the stats lab trade block.
