All right, it's pretty clear the finances aren't going to get better by themselves. Let's find a way to make something happen.
SP Ernesto Ramos - He's worked his way back to the top 45 pitchers in the league, so those Injury concerns are clearly in the past. Two more seasons under reasonable contract. Moving him would relieve a large chunk of our financial issues, so I'm open to several options. Could consider some salary retention, but likely not much.
3B Blaine Tyler - Solid 3-4 WAR player. My replacement won't be as good, but (repeat slowly) the numbers have to be listened to. He's got an opt-out into arbitration--meaning he'll be under your control next year for either his contract value, his arbitration number, or whatever you can negotiate with him in the gap between arby and FA.
SP Carlos Pineda - Won't trade him without getting a real return, but the numbers are such that I have to listen. Willing to extend for what seems like a pretty reasonable price.
DH Javier Rodriguez - Kind of a silent killer. The Contact looks low, but he walks enough to offset it. And when he hits it, as Aaron says, ball go far. It all adds up to make him a not-bad-too shabby DH.
Open to offers or packages that could include:
Luis Pena (due back next week)
Rex Foster (injured with uncertain recovery...hopefully soon)
Angel Hernandez
Al Colbert
----
Kids ready to play:
RP Jose Soto - A little older than your usual "prospect." But he's one of those late bloomers who pop up every so often. Seeing that he just bumped control again, he may not be done. Still has all his control years left, but my pen is still pretty stacked.
2B John Weber - Solid 2B prospect, six years of control, ready to play but blocked by Dong-po Thum. Looking for an equivalent prospect a couple seasons away.
C Rich Burke - Defense makes him a solid backup C, perhaps enough bat to start in a pinch.
Probably others ... I'm going to need to get nimble.
----
Preferred Return:
- Prospects with a little time left to develop
- Open to short term upgrades/rentals if the fit into my cap.
