If you retained salary, you aren't on the hook for TO's. Only PO's.

Yes. That being said saying "I expect you to do X" in a trade is a bit presumptive. They can do whatever they want.

If I was going to trade him, and be responsible for the option, my thought was to include something like “if the option is executed, then...something happens (cash/players, etc. comes to New Orleans. )

I'd be with you on that but I don't believe we do conditions here. So not even sure if you could do that. But, yeah, you're not on the hook for that TO salary. All of that transfers to the acquiring team.
