He doesn't have enough service time to be a free agent?bcslouck wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 2:37 pmI think that player-opt out takes priority since it's before a player option/potentially guaranteed season. If if were before an arbitration year, than you may. Someone else can confirm that but I feel pretty confident in saying he will be a free agent after this season unless he gets hurt.niles08 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 7:24 amSP-Jose Arrellano. He is 25 years old and 55 overall currently but floated between 55 and 60 the past year. He is very durable, and is a 3-4 WAR guy typically. He has a player option for next year of $4,000,000 but regardless has 2 more seasons of team control after this year. With the need for starting pitching, obviously my demand will be higher for him than other players on this block. It likely will involve a top prospect from your team, so if your not willing to part with that its unlikely we reach an agreement.

Hmm.. not sure if it matters if you give them options. I suppose it could reset to arbitration. Wouldn't ever think to give a PO of any kind before 6 years.

Re: Omaha trade block--updated 4/21 with SP
On my salary page it shows his arbitration season in 2044 so I'm thinking if he opts put we head to arbitration. I completely remember this contract when I signed it because he wanted 5 years with an opt out after 2 but I couldn't sign him more than 3 because of league rules so I did 3 with an opt out after 2 but he still had arb years left when the contract would end because he signed less than 2 years of service time.

If he does go back to arbitration, then I struggle to see why he would sign a contract with an opt-out.

Why would you give player opt-outs if you are that sure he's coming back to you on arby?niles08 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 2:45 pmOn my salary page it shows his arbitration season in 2044 so I'm thinking if he opts put we head to arbitration. I just hit buttons sometimes. In my head it essentially gives him the option to accept his salary as is or head to arbitration if he thinks he deserved more. His arbitration for 2044 shows 3.4 million right now on my contract page.

Quick response on the beta board is that he will go back to arbitration.

Re: Omaha all too early trade block--POSTSEASON(5/22)
I can't believe if a player opts out of a contract he can't leave? That has got to be "gaming the system"? If you opt out you leave, not hang around for 1, 2 or however many arby years? I can't believe that's good for the player or the league?

Re: Omaha all too early trade block--POSTSEASON(5/22)
I agree it seems wonky and I can not remember the circumstances in how it was signed. I will probably have a similar situation with RJ Hughes, who has a player option followed by a bunch of arby years but that is due to the UMEBA crossover

I think the fairest league ruling would be that if he opts out, he’s out. Doesn’t seem any other way, anything else is having your cake and eating it. Taking advantage of the AI who thought it was getting control of it’s life lol

Re: Omaha all too early trade block--POSTSEASON(5/22)
This happened with Jorge Soler of the Kansas City Royals...He was signed to a 10 year deal with the Cubs but could opt out after a certain amount of years...since he had less than 6 years of service time if he opted out he would go to arbitration.
https://www.sbnation.com/2012/6/11/3078 ... ct-opt-out
This actually could work in favor of the player depending on the price...if his contract was to pay him more than his arbitration value...he wouldn't want to opt-out...For instance, if his contract paid him $5 million this season but he had an arb value of only $3 million...it goes both ways...Honestly if he does opt out and head to arbitration, he is likely to earn less than what his scheduled salary is.
