2062- Where would you start Elovsky?

With the selection of
Serge Elovsky the highest for a relief pitcher in decades, where would you place him if he was on your squad?

I might start him as a middle relief guy if I had a decent current option at closer and/or stopper. But if I didn’t I’d probably throw him right into a key role.

I don't think he needs a ton of polish but I would get him some time in AA at least first before burning service time. Nothing says you can't move him up quickly but Id make sure he's ready first as ratings can be deceiving.

I’d throw him in A or AA ball, and see how he does against pro hitting.

He’ll turn 21 soon so not *that* young. I can’t believe how conservative y’all want to be with a fully developed reliever who immediately would be one of the most talented relievers in the league.

If he's coming up this year, might as well get him started. I'd put him in MR right away mostly to get any rust shaken off before he goes to a high leverage role. If he flags, or the team flags, you can send him down--which gains the service time value of possibly avoiding Super2 later.

He's ready to go if you are. If you want to hold him back till next year to manipulate the old service time, nobody will call you out.
As far as him being a RP or a SP. I'd refer you to
José Torres as a comp. Opponents are hitting .194/.230/.278 against him in innings 1-3 and .375/.455/.667 in innings 4-6.
Hard to tell for sure where Torres and Elovsky rank within the spectrum of 3 stamina. Torres could be really low and Elosky high. And since we don't know the splits within the 4-6 inning range,
maybe Elovsky can be effective though 6 innings, that is
if his stamina is higher.
Too many question marks for me. If I have a 75 potential guy, I want him to play like a 75 potential guy. I'd personally use him as a stopper so he can pitch 2-3 lights out innings 3-4 times a week. He'll still pitch 150 or so innings(probably the same as he would as a SP). Except they are going to be more effective and in the biggest leverage spots.
That's just me though. I'm sure others have different opinions and that makes this league fun.

Because ratings can lie. We've seen it too many times. I'd want a check in first. Plus unless Vancouver is in a race for the playoffs burning a year of service time makes no sense.

I think that's a solid analysis of how to use him. Nothing wrong with a stopper. I wish I had one myself.

I'd start him in Nashville.

Ratings can lie but if it’s this guy or Vancouver’s 8th best reliever I know who is more likely to produce.
The only way to save on service time is to hold him until a midyear promotion next season. All indications from Aaron’s recent moves is that he’s trying to compete.

I’ll say this: I intend to place
my first round pick in AAA and he’s no Elovsky.

Sample size lies. Ratings themselves do not.

Don't be scared this guy is a starter

I’d send him to AAA for about a month to get used to the pro game and also shake off the rust. If he’s dominating after 2 weeks I’d promote him.

Give him a handful of appearances at AAA.
