I usually just bring the players on the 40 man roster. If I have a player I think will make the roster I’d bring him up with the spring training invite.

I will bring more if I have more. I remember @RonCo bringing up 50+ regularly.

I bring up 27 hitters for sim one. Three to play each position. Set depth chart with two backups. Each backup plays every 3rd game(almost like 3 split squads). So all 27 get similar playing time and enough rest to avoid injuries. Sim two I send down those who have no shot at making team. Sim 3 I make another round of cuts.

Pitchers I'm a little more fluid. I never start my projected starters in sim one. So their first outing is just an inning or two. Like hitters, I start with a bunch and make cuts each sim.

Usually 70. This year was 59, but that's because I was sidetracked while adding guys. It's 70 now. I go by Ron's theory of having any viable BBA player in my system coached by my best coaches (better be my BBA coaches), even if its just for the month of spring training.

But I do start my starters as if it's the regular season. Only change is adding a sixth starter. Otherwise, I let my manager figure all the depth charts and in-game moves.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.

I'm not sure how to answer this. I like to have a way I do certain things. I always knew with the FPL who I was going to send and why. Spring Training is getting squishier and squishier for me. I like the idea of promising guys getting coached by my best coaches and getting additional reps, but does it help to have a 19 year old put up a 42 ERA or a .325 OPS in the spring because he's not ready? No idea. I've started subscribing to the idea that more is more in a way, I'll take a 1 in 70 chance that Corfield or Roman goes down over a 1 in 35 chance every time.

At the end of it all, I try to get anyone on the ST roster who looks like they belong there. Most fringe ML players probably get a spot. Prospects who are ahead of their developmental curve probably get a spot. I make sure guys who need positional cross training get some time. I add and remove guys every sim. It's a friggin mess and I hate it. By the last spring training sim my roster is mostly guys who would get consideration for a big league spot so that my roster players can knock the rust off and hit the ground running, if that's a thing.

I am one of the few who bring less than 30. Typically, by the second sim I have ALL of my cuts made and am just running the opening roster out there the final 2 weeks.

I usually whittle down my roster as spring training progresses. If there’s a guy on my 40 man roster who I know doesn’t stand a chance at making the big club he’s usually banished after the first sim. By the time we get to the last spring sim I try to get the roster to about what opening day will be. Just keep a couple extra arms, a 3rd catcher, and an extra infielder and outfielder just for emergency depth in case they have a 20 inning spring game or something crazy happens.

I have just two non-roster invitees, so only 42 total. This is in part because I have so many potential regulars who are new and untested, and I want to form opinions around slightly larger sample sizes of these 42. Larger ST rosters will make for much smaller samples of more players.

Of course, if my team were contenders, I'd have studs who I just want to spend ST at the Tiki bar, so more invitees would make more sense.

Interesting how much divisiveness there is on this topic even amongst our best GMs. Makes me think it doesn’t matter much.

Most times and especially in other leagues I had previously used ST mostly as a cross-training tool. This year it's legitimately to evaluate my majors/minors guys and see if one is killing it I might just try to make a spot for them.
