Is The X Generation Strategy Smart or Stupid?
With my announcement that the Robins are going to bring up all of the top 100 prospects in my system to start the year, is this high risk strategy worth it?

I'm probably not one to talk in this regard given my rotation, but I'm not a fan of trying to develop on the MLB level until they show they're just too good for AAA and it's the only step left.lordtoffee wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 10:39 pmWith my announcement that the Robins are going to bring up all of the top 100 prospects in my system to start the year, is this high risk strategy worth it?

Re: Is The X Generation Strategy Smart or Stupid?
As someone who did something very similar just last season, I think it's a good idea... If they are ready. The big issue that everyone is going to give you grief over is Morales. He is clearly not ready to be included in the X Generation in 2053. You are going to waste his cheap years developing him. By the time he hits his prime, he will be a free agent.
I faced a similar issue as you. I had Ramos/Brooks(BBA ready) and Bouton/Harrington 4-5 years away. I decided to trade the later for a bunch of cheap younger BBA players to consolidate the core timing.
Not saying you are wrong though. As long as you are having fun and doing what you want to do, don't let others tell you how to run your team. I hope he fills out fast and you make the playoffs again sooner rather than later.

I like that "stupid" is spelled "stupd".

That's my thinking. I find myself really excited for every sim, and if this doesn't work, then at least I had the guts to try and will be a better GM because of the experience.

Re: Is The X Generation Strategy Smart or Stupid?
Lots of tradeoffs here -- I think if it were me making this decision, I'd be looking at a few factors:
1) are the top 100 guys all good enough to play at a major league level and not be totally out of their depth? The right balance of challenge is key IMO.
2) is my staff at the ML level better suited for developing young guys than anyone in my minors? Will they benefit from working w/ specific coaches?
3) Similarly, are my upper minor levels going to be good development environments for top players? Coaches, team construction, park factors, etc.
4) Do I have any better options at the ML level? I'd probably want to split time w/ someone more established as insurance.
Will be following -- good luck.

Terrible idea. Not only are possibly hurting player development, but you’re also going to be using their service time up early which will hurt financially down the line if the players are able to reach their full potential.

Counterpoint to the financial issue is that if they struggle early on, you might be able to get their arby years a lot cheaper than you would otherwise.

Re: Is The X Generation Strategy Smart or Stupid?
I'd rather have them for 9 years(3 in the minors development + 6 major league years) with higher WAR in the BBA than to have them for 6 major league years and pay a low arbitration price for potentially around 0 WAR. I think it'll be fun to see these guys potentially hit free agency in their mid 20's instead of 28-29 years old. If they develop, the contracts they get could be crazy.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 1:45 amCounterpoint to the financial issue is that if they struggle early on, you might be able to get their arby years a lot cheaper than you would otherwise.
