Re: Manager restrictions
If you dont like the strategy the coach has or will let you have input to, dont hire that coach.

Re: Manager restrictions
I dont mind the strategy sliders but they should not lock me out from hiring coaches. I pay the salary lol.

Re: Manager restrictions
For me, the issue is that managers we already have had for years now suddenly won't let you hire a coach. That wasn't the case in prior versions.

Re: Manager restrictions
I only believe GM's should retain full control until OOTP gets it right. The fact that I couldn't hire a hitting coach because my manager had control of it but the game isn't programmed to have him give recommendations on who he'd like is an oversight. I tried a bunch of different candidates and he wasn't having it. Even thought I figured out what he was looking for and he still said no. So while I like that addition, it needs to be refined to work better.

Re: Manager restrictions
I voted we should retain full control of our team, but I'm fine with the manager saying they want to hire their own guys. As I've written in the OOTP dev world, I think the manager should "demand" to hire their own people...but when I say no, then I risk them quitting or just not staying with me.
I suspect the feature will improve next iteration (that's a usual flow of new features...the first year is horrible, the second gets better, and after three years the thing kind of works.
All that said, I don't know that the current implementation will let us adjust anything.

Re: Manager restrictions
I'm with this, but until they actually add to this where the manager demands coaches or a certain type, we shouldn't do it.RonCo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 10:36 pmI voted we should retain full control of our team, but I'm fine with the manager saying they want to hire their own guys. Re: Manager restrictions
Managers shouldn't control anything but game strategy, as far as I'm concerned. I decide who to hire and fire, including the manager; they can decide which pitchers to use and when to bunt.

Re: Manager restrictions
That's all good, but at present the only way I know to change this is to remove coaches all together.

Re: Manager restrictions
Since I'm guessing OOTP Dev will work to fix this in the next version, I'm going to share how I've suggested things should work here. If you have other ideas or complaints or anything you think I'm missing, please let me know and I'll try to lobby around them.
Then on another rock:The behavior of when a manager wants to sign his own staff should be changed. A few thoughts:
While hiring a manager, if that manager will only come to a team if he's allowed to hire his own people there should be a notice at the time of an offer (a pop-up screen or something with the ability of the GM to decide not to offer him).
If, after having been hired for a while, the manager suddenly decides he's big enough to call his shots, the manager should send the GM a notice saying he wants to hire his own people. If the GM agrees, he goes and does that. If the GM does not agree, the manager either lets the GM know he'll go elsewhere when his contract is up, or -- if he's particularly upset -- resigns either then or a short while later.
It is quite annoying when you go along and then suddenly realize you don't have control of something you used to control.
And finally:Another issue (in addition with your point on legacy mode) with this feature is that there is (I think) no way for a commissioner to edit these settings
If you don't choose to listen to the manager, then it's fair for the manager to get peeved and decide to leave after his contract is up, or to retire early, or whatever.
But no GM in the world will simply hand a blank check to his manager and say "go hire anyone you want."

Re: Manager restrictions
I was going to set some of my personnel stuff to the AGM and manager, but I have coaches I've developed over the years on the ML team now that I don't want to see go.

Re: Manager restrictions
Coaches have been an addition to the game for a number of updates...I'm not sure what evidence there is that it will get "fixed." I'm not sure how one would even measure that. I'm not really into reality TV, so I don't see the value of adding any of this to a simulation that revolves around stats. For my dynasty league(s) it can be entertaining, but for online, competitive leagues against other "real" human beings there's zero positive value to using "coaches" in my opinion. The addition just creates more angst and takes away from the work done to build the organization. So, regardless of the cost to the organization, I will continue to fire any manager/coach that influences any of my teams negatively or coaches in opposition to how I want the team run. I have no interest in competing against fictitious coaches that I hire while also competing against real humans. It's counterintuitive.
I'll back out of further discussion, but I fail to see any added value to coaches used in online leagues. Again, this is my opinion only. I guess it could lead to some entertaining writing, so there's that...

Re: Manager restrictions
I prefer to have control myself, but I do like the realism of coaches. If I was a GM in real life, I'd like to hire coaches who share my philosophy. It's actually good I'm not a GM in real life, as things would happen.
