Input Requested: Relative Ratings
We've been on relative ratings for several years now, and are coming to the conclusion that (1) they don't really work like we thought they did and (2) they can cause some confusion, especially when scaling between BBA and UMEBA.
As such, the Matt and the GB are considering whether we should move beck to true ratings for 2045, and would like any thoughts you have. Please vote, and add any thoughts you have in the thread.

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
Just an FYI...According to the OOTP manual for those who don't even know what relative ratings for sure are(which is me).....
By default, OOTP ratings are scaled relative to the chosen league, usually the best league in the universe. If this option is disabled, then player ratings will show using their absolute values. If enabled, then ratings will be scaled to the average of the league, so that a player who is a 50 on a 20-80 will be exactly league average.
I think it basically says that if using relative ratings, a "5 power" player should be exactly league average for "power", which makes sense.
One thing I do like is the "relative rating view" that I can use to see my players ratings for each level. I think that has helped me to know what players "overall's or ratings" are at each level in deciding whether a guy is ready to move from AA to AAA. I assume those would go away if we went back to regular ratings.

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
Unfortunately, it doesn't quite work that way.
I think this is the one function that relative ratings gives us. So they have some value. It will be interesting to see what the league cares about more. One thing I do like is the "relative rating view" that I can use to see my players ratings for each level. Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
I hate the weird swings we get in ratings with different events, like roster expansions. It's hard to know if rating bumps/lumps are real or not.
I'm guessing some of you on the board have switched back between relative and actual. I'd like to hear some input from you on what you think.

For what it's worth, here's that humongous, relatively horrible study I did on relative ratings and how they seem to work. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=33592

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
I do agree with that 100%. I hate spring training when my players go up and down and I don't know what is real and what isn't real.

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
I think the concept of relative ratings is great, and if it worked as advertised/expected then I wouldn't want to change. But with the issues we see, I think a move back to absolute might for the better. I will definitely miss the ability to see ratings by level for MiL, but it's probably not worth dealing with the weirdness.

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
Basically this. As I mentioned in the other thread my ideal is the ability to toggle between the two, but since OOTP makes us choose I say true/absoluteLane wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 11:52 amI think the concept of relative ratings is great, and if it worked as advertised/expected then I wouldn't want to change. I agree with Stephen: great concept, but the reality doesn't live up to it ... at least for now.

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
To me the real annoyance of relative ratings is how they seem to warp in the off season as players come into and get out of the applicable pool. I didn't realize how it would react that there.

I dunno. For me that might be the very best part.
But honestly the ocean has too much motion and it's too misunderstood.

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
I just like to see the relative ratings at each level, it’s sometimes very useful if I’m deciding between two to promote or how far someone could possibly be promoted

Re: Input Requested: Relative Ratings
With about half the precincts reporting, it seems fairly clear the majority is in favor of a return to the traditional raw ratings.
