2042 Cartwright Cup

Post by crobillard » Sat May 23, 2020 3:49 pm

Posted this up for a quick vote hopefully before the sim and maybe get some discussion going. Who wins?

No shortage of storylines in these games.

Brooklyn v. Edmonton
Brooklyn won the season series 5-3 in the eight games played during the season. Both teams bank on a high contact offense and rangey defenses that try to swallow up every ball that makes contact. The bigger differences in the teams are Brooklyn has more pop in their lineup and Edmonton pitching performed better during the season.

Storylines to watch:
Fernando Cruz. BBAs Mr. October, making his 12th playoff appearance in his 13 years in the game. He leads the BBA in almost every postseason career offensive category. He's a monster that may make Edmonton regret letting him go last year.

How does Edmonton handle the lefty heavy lineup and pitching staff of Brooklyn?

Louisville v. California
Louisville dominated this matchup in the season 7-1 and California is foaming at the mouth wanting revenge. Crusader players took the field in game one of the Doubleday without shoes on as an homage to their General Manager Doug 'Shoeless' Olmstead after a reportedly invigorating speech riling the players up before they took on the Nine. Louisville's 111 wins lead the BBA. They have the #1 offense and pitching staff in the Frick and it's not all that close after them. If they didn't have more to play for, Louisville lost to the Nine last season at this stage and then watched the Nine crumble to the far superior Edmonton team in the Landis. Louisville does not want to let anyone get in the way this time.

Despite losing the season series against Louisville, California is not slouch. They have one of the best offenses in the BBA and their top three in the rotation is Miguel Ramos, Luis Gracia and Dani Gracia. It is one of the best top three in the BBA. There is no doubt that this series will be a battle that all eyes will be on.

Storylines to watch:
Can California repeat their dominating offensive performance that they had in the Doubleday? Seven Crusader players had an OPS of over .800 in the series with Louisville. If that continues, I'm not sure California can be beaten.

Armando Feliciano and James Browning combined for 25.1 innings only allowing 16 hits in the Doubleday. It appears both of these teams are doing what they do best at another level entirely. Something has got to give.

I want Shoeless to advance but my head says the Sluggers have just too much firepower.

I see @Jwalk100 is a Pacific scab.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.

It's either me in the playoffs for the Pacific or no one.
