Ballpark Food Challenge - Round 2 (#2 of 2)

Post by jleddy » Mon Apr 20, 2020 1:26 pm

Congrats to all those who advanced! Remember, you can find all entries at the main post here.

And now, Round 2 match-ups:

SNACK/FINGER FOOD REGION

(2) Montreal's "Blazers Blazing Nachos" vs (18) Rockville's "Meat Pikes"
No surprise to see the #2 seed advance but Rockville upset Las Vegas in the opening round to set-up this showdown. Will Montreal's seemingly bottomless nachos be able to take down all things meaty and bacon-wrapped?

(7) Edmonton's "The Hot Mess" vs (10) California's "The Joe Lacy Special"
A fascinating match-up of contrasting styles. You have the over-indulgent messy poutine vs the simple and basic yet perfect-for-a-ballgame pickled eggs and pretzels. One may think the marketing departments for both clubs will be working overtime to make sure they can survive this round.

DESSERT REGION

(3) Portland's "Kate's Kookies" vs (19) New Orleans' "Bases Loaded Beignets"
Both entries won easily in Round 1 with scores of 16-5, however it was New Orleans' upset that surprised some. Backed by confidence and newfound swagger, could the beignets provide the upset of the tournament by topping the bourbon-infused cookies of Portland?

MISC REGION

(6) Vancouver's "The B.C. Roll" vs (22) San Fernando's "The Jon Reed Messy Burrito"
The B.C. Roll proved to be the better, if not safer, sushi choice in Round 1 while the Jon Reed upset San Antonio's brisket tacos in the closest match of Round 1, 11-10. Both will need to be on their A-game, as Vancouver faces the backlash of an anti-sushi voting electorate while some may think San Fernando's half-price beer is a cheap ploy to gain support. We'll soon see.

the only thing cheap about the San Fernando entry is the price of the beer, and i resent any implication otherwise.
