Most Surprising Hot Start (Player Edition)

Post by jleddy » Thu Aug 01, 2019 1:40 pm

The skinny:
  • Abe Colbert Jr. (Wichita) - With lowest BB/9 since rookie season and highest K/9 of career, the 32-year-old pitcher is having the best season of his ten-year career. After combining for 1.9 total WAR from 2034-2038, Colbert Jr. is on-pace for 5.1 WAR this year.
  • Semei Kwakou (Louisville) - Only two years since being drafted, the 19-year-old basically jumped from AA to be a bona fide MVP candidate.
  • Dusty Rhodes (San Fernando/Edmonton) - At age 35, the first baseman is making a run at .400, a feat accomplished only three times in league history. Rhodes' current .389 batting average would be the 8th best single-season mark.
  • George Robertson (Yellow Springs) - A career .279 hitter through his first four seasons, the left fielder is batting .330 and on-pace to hit 49 HR (career-high is 30).
  • Alan Williamson (Des Moines) - Through first two seasons, the second baseman was a career .223/.330/.379 hitter. This season, he's slashing .259/.412/.515, an impovement of 218 points of OPS, and on-pace to finish in the top-ten in WAR for the entire Brewster.
