Should Aubrey Anderson Opt Out of 19.42 Million.

I'm going to do something new this offseason with free agents, so I figured I'd rack up some easy PP as a way to research the market. It should help you guys to with some questions I'll later be asking you. We've been wondering how good OOTP is at players judging the market when deciding on player opt outs and options. It does feel like a mixed bag so far. So, before we get to the wonderful day where we all figure out who is screwed and who is not so much, let's see what we think. Remember, I'm asking you, SHOULD this player opt out. Not whether you expect them to do so. With each player I ask about, I'll try to give a little background. Feel free to discuss.

Aubery Anderson

Another interesting one. What's the going rate for a solid platoon corner OF in FA? Anderson is no longer the 3-4 win player he was in Charm City, but after a stinker in 2036 (.224/.271/.438, 81 wRC+), Anderson bounced back to a solid, in not impressive, .271/.316/.484, 104 wRC+ line in 2037. He's still a good corner OF and was worth 1.7 WAR in a platoon role, which is perfectly acceptable as a starter.

He just finished the first year of a 3 year, 27.63 million dollar deal. Year one was the cheapest year. If he opts in, he's guaranteed 9.21 and 10.21 mil over the following two seasons. Were he older, I'd say opting in is a no brainer, but 2038 will be his age 28 season and maybe he thinks he can get a longer deal.

He doesn't look like an 8 figure player to me - too many warts. Needs to be platooned, low OBP, no positional flexibility. I'd like him on my team, but in the 7-8M range, not the 10-11M range. So, I think he should stay in his current deal. He'll still be on the right side of 30 by the end of it to hit FA then.

Arguments go both ways. Big power from the left side, and a good defense can go a ways here. My guess is he can get more years guaranteed if he leaves now at age 28 than if he waits until age 30, when there's a reasonable change his glove won't be a draw.

He may not get more annually, but given his age, he'll probably get more over 4 or 5 years. So I think he'll opt out.

He also needs to play in a lefty friendly park or else he'll be a total bust. Anywhere outside of Oma ,ccj, Jax, lv, Wichita, HSV, or Cal and he'll hit .220/.280 with maybe 20 hr, barely over replacement level. If I were him, I wouldn't opt out.
