I'm going to do something new this offseason with free agents, so I figured I'd rack up some easy PP as a way to research the market. It should help you guys to with some questions I'll later be asking you. We've been wondering how good OOTP is at players judging the market when deciding on player opt outs and options. It does feel like a mixed bag so far. So, before we get to the wonderful day where we all figure out who is screwed and who is not so much, let's see what we think. Remember, I'm asking you, SHOULD this player opt out. Not whether you expect them to do so. With each player I ask about, I'll try to give a little background. Feel free to discuss.
Mike Bailey
Mike Bailey was once a pretty highly touted prospect. He never really lived up to the potential, largely due to injuries. Still, he's been a useful mid rotation guy at times. He only managed 77 innings in 2037, and 64.2 in 2036. He put up 3.97 and 3.62 ERA's in those years (0.9 and 1.3 WAR)
Bailey made 5 mil this year. Next year he could opt out of a potential 8 million. However, that 8 mil is a team option with a 1.6 million buy out. 2038 will be his age 36 season.
Should Mike Bailey opt out and become a free agent?

Re: Should Mike Bailey Opt Out?
Like with Sandcastle, I'm expecting a buyout anyway, so Bailey should hang tight and not lose that free money.

I agree, and then the question becomes does OOTP anticipate buyouts?

Re: Should Mike Bailey Opt Out?
Bailey is a more interesting question. At 35, he could possibly get multiple guaranteed years. I'd probably still hang tight if I were him, but the calculus isn't as easy as with sandcastle.
