Should Jesus Ramos Decline His Player Option for 9.81 mil?

I'm going to do something new this offseason with free agents, so I figured I'd rack up some easy PP as a way to research the market. It should help you guys to with some questions I'll later be asking you. We've been wondering how good OOTP is at players judging the market when deciding on player opt outs and options. It does feel like a mixed bag so far. So, before we get to the wonderful day where we all figure out who is screwed and who is not so much, let's see what we think. Remember, I'm asking you, SHOULD this player opt out. Not whether you expect them to do so. With each player I ask about, I'll try to give a little background. Feel free to discuss.

Jesus Ramos

Ramos has been a good starter most of the time. His career FIP is 3.8 is quite nice. On the other hand, he turns in the odd 4.5 FIP year here and there. He just finished a 4.19 FIP year, with a 3.57 the year before that. ERA's and WARs those years were 3.91, 4.44 and 2.1 (only 100 innings) and 2.7 (150 innings). The IP numbers are odd as he hasn't been injured. I remember him being bench oddly and used out of the 'pen in Montreal in 2036. He's a low stamina starter, so there's that.

Ramos has a player option for the last year of a six year, 54. 86 million dollar deal. It would pay him 9.81 million. Next year would be his age 33 season. Edmonton notably is on of the rising franchises in the league.

He looks like the kind of pitcher that will drum up a bidding war (sexy ratings), but be massively disappointing to the winner of said war in the end (3rd pitch, stamina). With that in mind, he should absolutely opt out and go get paid.

Arguments can be made either way, but outing it is probably the best way for him to optimize future salary. Projects against injury, too.

If he opts out I’ll be happy, but I don’t expect him too. He definitely should....probably. He’s getting up there in age which I dunno maybe lends to the idea that he should opt out and go get paid. He’s a fine pitcher, but that stamina really kills my options and he’s really inconsistent even when he’s on a pitch count nearly the entire season. I like that he’s never been injured, but he’s a little too wacky. I’m not sure I’ll be upset if he stays, but I definitely won’t be upset if he leaves. Freeing up that salary is music to my ears.
