I'm going to do something new this offseason with free agents, so I figured I'd rack up some easy PP as a way to research the market. It should help you guys to with some questions I'll later be asking you. We've been wondering how good OOTP is at players judging the market when deciding on player opt outs and options. It does feel like a mixed bag so far. So, before we get to the wonderful day where we all figure out who is screwed and who is not so much, let's see what we think. Remember, I'm asking you, SHOULD this player opt out. Not whether you expect them to do so. With each player I ask about, I'll try to give a little background. Feel free to discuss.
Jimmy Greenwood
Ah Jimmy Greenwood. One time future of the Brewster. Never figured out his change up really, but has still has a good career. He just finished his third season in Calgary, and by WAR at least it was the best of his career. He lead his league in BB/9 for the 10th straight season, and also lead in HR/9, an impressive feat in Calgary. His 3.32 ERA was his best since 2033, and the second best mark of his career. His FIP 3.35 is also a return to his heyday, after hovering around league average (4.45 or so) for the past three seasons.
Greenwood just finished the second year of a 5 year, 66.55 million dollar deal. He can make 13.31 mil in each of the next three years, and the last year is a player option. Calgary missed the playoffs this year and was a very average-ish team, but is brimming with young pitching talent.
Should Jimmy Greenwood opt out of 39.93 million and become a free agent?

If he had put in another 2.5-3.5 WAR season I'd probably suggest he keep his current contract for now with eyes to decline the PO at the end and hit FA again at 34 while he can still maybe get a decent swan song deal. Now, though, coming off a 6.7 WAR season at age 32 with the bleeding seemingly stopped on his ratings? I think he could blow 3x39.93 out of the water.

It's arguable either way, but if I were his agent, I'd say opt out.
