Guess the Extension Demand
Lets play a fun game. I just traded for Jayden Harsnett and he is a FA after this season. What do you think he is asking for per year for an extension? Options will be round numbers, but cover every value that starts with that number (i.e guess 10 for anything from 10.0 to 10.9)

Wow. I wouldn't want to give him 10 mil per. Those are some awful options to choose from.

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
?? Is he asking for more than $12 million now? What the?
His demands have been rising as the season wore on. I posted an article about it earlier. There was no way we could resign him, but I was keeping tabs to see if he would come back to earth.
Seriously, if he’s able to sign for half that as a free agent.... then again someone might pay him. I thought the same about Eilzando.

I'm hoping these are good signs that players value going to free agency more than they once did.

I hope so too. More free agency would definitely be better for the league.

I voted for 20 mil, one because I am a pessimist and two because these OOTP contract demands are just stupid. Its almost as if the game is not aware that we have a salary cap.

If I'm "right" it's the player's way of saying "I'm planning on going to FA, but I'm open to you overpaying me if you want to."jiminyhopkins wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 11:39 amI voted for 20 mil, one because I am a pessimist and two because these OOTP contract demands are just stupid. Re: Guess the Extension Demand
Agree. More free agent selling for cheap at the deadline (ala Manny Machado).
Side note, but perhaps it’s time to consider removing the years of service / contract length restrictions. Seems to be much improved than it was.

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
i am in agreement with fred on this one. I assume that rule was put in place because guys were selling out their arby years for stupid cheap prices? As a point of reference here is a screen shot of superstar 1B Tai Hoi Wie and his contract demands. Obviously this contract would be illegal under league rules, but he certainly isnt giving himself a discount here...JimBob2232 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 1:36 pmAgree. EDIT: his service time is 3 years, 132 days.

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
True. But the real question is not what he's asking for, but what he would accept. The other aspect of it is how a player in their first year would react. I'm neither for or against removing such restrictions on the face of it, but I would suggest being very careful.

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
I would be in favor of keeping the 3 year restriction because of the rookie reaction that you mentioned, but once you hit 3 I think it is worth considering removing the 3 year max restriction and opening it up to signing a full league contract (currently at 6 max).RonCo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 2:04 pmTrue. Re: Guess the Extension Demand
It would need some testing, for sure. But if the game engine is smart enough that this is no longer an issue, no need restricting anymore.RonCo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 2:04 pmTrue. I agree with that completely. The fewer house restrictions needed, the better.JimBob2232 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 6:07 pmIt would need some testing, for sure. But if the game engine is smart enough that this is no longer an issue, no need restricting anymore.

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
I agree. No need to wait for 5 yrs service time anymore. You see teams in MLB signing guys early all the time. And OOTP certainly has our young guys asking for a ton of money at a much earlier age.
Let's lower the restriction to 3 yrs service this offseason and see where it goes.

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
I'd argue that it's not that ludicrous. You're asking the guy what it would take to forego free agency. His ask should be big. And at 28, I'm sure there's a team that would pony up that dough for him.

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
well im not sure I exactly qualify as the best person to discuss big money OF contracts (or you for that matter), but I would go on record as being extremely surprised if he got more than $50 million guaranteed on his next deal (basically half of what he wants in an extension).

Re: Guess the Extension Demand
Isn't he essentially the same player as Lecaze? Actually I'd value Harsnett just a slight bit better cause he can atleast hit LHP a little bit. Lecaze got $80 million without hitting free agency. Not everyone(myself included) view him as a CF anymore, but I gaurantee that at least 15 teams do. And if one of them is in need of a centerfielder, the will pay a premium for Harsnett because there are rarely any competent CF that make it to free agency. It will probably end badly, but it will happen.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 6:52 pmwell im not sure I exactly qualify as the best person to discuss big money OF contracts (or you for that matter), but I would go on record as being extremely surprised if he got more than $50 million guaranteed on his next deal (basically half of what he wants in an extension).
*edit* Jorge Vargas is also comparable and got $70 million.
