well im not sure I exactly qualify as the best person to discuss big money OF contracts (or you for that matter), but I would go on record as being extremely surprised if he got more than $50 million guaranteed on his next deal (basically half of what he wants in an extension).
Isn't he essentially the same player as Lecaze? Actually I'd value Harsnett just a slight bit better cause he can atleast hit LHP a little bit. Lecaze got $80 million without hitting free agency. Not everyone(myself included) view him as a CF anymore, but I gaurantee that at least 15 teams do. And if one of them is in need of a centerfielder, the will pay a premium for Harsnett because there are rarely any competent CF that make it to free agency. It will probably end badly, but it will happen.
he is the same player as lacaze (but with less ability on the basepaths), and the only reason lacaze got that contract was because i was a dumbass and overpaid for 1/3 season of goodness in Havana. I would be surprised if anyone had given lacaze that deal in FA.

I'd argue that it's not that ludicrous. You're asking the guy what it would take to forego free agency. His ask should be big. And at 28, I'm sure there's a team that would pony up that dough for him.

I would love a wager with you that he gets more than $50 mil.

1 million in bonus cash? By the way, when I say guaranteed, I am excluding team options (as well as obviously any incentives).

My other league, we just do 6 years max no matter when and it's never been much of an issue. Even if you sign the player after year 1 to a team friendly deal, you're still losing out on 2 years of league minimum and guaranteeing money. I think just restricting contracts to the 6 year max will keep financials in check.

Wow. I wouldn't want to give him 10 mil per. Those are some awful options to choose from.
He's a multi-WAR player at a difficult to fill position - he's clearly worth 7 figures - just not terribly far into it.

I guess I stated myself poorly. I would pay him 10-11 mil on a 3-4 year FA deal if he was the piece I needed, I just wouldn't want to.

That's fair - it would be a bitter pill even if necessary.

Could I just ask a favor from everyone? Could we all stop trying to change all the rules for a minute? :)

That'd be great. Thanks.

Yeah I'm starting to get flashbacks. Next thing you know I'll have Mosey and Brade arguing about something inconsequential.

for what it is worth, harsnett now wants 6/121 as a FA, kind of reducing the argument that he wanted more in order to bypass free agency...

For 2036... You definitely got the better end of the deal.

He might have been the guy to push SF past TWC in the playoffs. The TWC took a dip after he left and Ganao was a no show when he returned from the DL.

I should have just kept Harsnett and possibly got a draft pick. Which I didn’t know about with Free Agents.

Live and learn I guess.
